Purpose

Reporting to the VP of Sustainability, the Director, Sustainability is a demanding and high-profile position responsible for working across the business to drive strategies and programs that support AVANGRID's ESG+F strategy and positions AVANGRID as the leading sustainable energy company in the US.

In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership to develop and support a holistic strategy for sustainability initiatives and drive accountability and coordination for those activities across a matrixed organization. The Director will drive continual process improvements to adapt, improve and mature our non-financial data reporting to support ESG reporting and communications. You will also work closely with the leadership across the organization including Corporate, Networks and Renewables businesses as well as parent company representatives (Iberdrola S.A.) headquartered in Madrid, Spain.

Primary areas of responsibilities will include oversight and coordination of activities across the business related to sustainability including reporting and analysis of the company's progress on ESG+F goals, oversight of the non-financial reporting process, and ensuring efficient and effective coordination of ESG+F information and metrics across the organization. The Director will also be responsible for strategic review and oversight of key ESG surveys and ratings and driving process improvements resulting from the results. This role will also work closely with investor relations and communications to ensure messaging is aligned to stakeholder objectives and investor interests.

In this role you will develop measurement protocols to determine effectiveness of sustainability activities and ensure optimal use of resources to achieve goals. You will monitor industry and discipline trends, tools, and technologies and bring them to the organization.

Sustainability is an evolving area. New regulation and global and US initiatives will drive new programs and requirements. This role will work with the VP, Sustainability to assess, coordinate and lead the implementation of the new and emerging initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on Sustainability strategy, program development and implementation.
  • Builds relationships and connections across business to promote and coordinate sustainability within the company.
  • Oversee non- financial indicator data collection and reporting including process improvements and incorporation of changing requirements.
  • Oversee coordination of sustainability reporting requirements and data collection with global Iberdrola Group.
  • Oversee development and submission of key sustainability indices including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, CDP disclosure program, FFTSE4good.
  • Work closely with Iberdrola Group colleagues to ensure global objectives are considered and reflected at AVANGRID level.
  • Scan the market and provide competitive intelligence to support the development of the company as a sustainability leader.
  • Oversee, manage, and deliver special projects in the Sustainability areas.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:
  • Proven experience in ESG program management and reporting.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree required with Master's Degree preferred with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience and minimum 4 years industry experience; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Internal Avangrid experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing sustainability strategy and programs for a publicly traded company, global company.
  • Experience managing teams that do not report directly.
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization managing multiple stakeholders.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Bilingual capability preferred; fluency in Spanish and English in both written and verbal communication desired.

  • Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize projects and work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
