Reporting to our General Manager, Software, as our new Director, Software Engineering, you will:

  • Work as a technologist to build, organize, and lead our high-performing software teams across multiple locations and multiple product lines (including SaaS, on-premise, embedded, perpetual, and subscription offerings) while defining & setting enterprise software engineering standards.
  • Lead and mentor the software and applications engineering team leaders development in all aspects of their roles to create an industry-leading team.
  • Play a crucial role in product scoping, roadmap, and architecture discussions with Marketing, Sales, and Product Management.
  • Envision and build our software engineering organizational structure, methods, and processes to scale for growth while working collaboratively in a matrix organization.

  • Drive internal, cross-team collaboration in developing short, mid, and long-range objectives, strategies, and goals for the team while directing and allocating resources (i.e. associates, process, and tools) to support key business initiatives and customers (locally and globally).
  • Collaborate with the General Manager, Director of Marketing, and Product Owners to develop and translate the Team's Product Vision & Strategy into a stream of research, technology, and product development efforts that spans five years or more into the future. This includes meeting with customers to understand their expressed and unmet needs which can be solved through innovative product design.
  • Lead the engineering team's research into new technologies to assure the continuous development of intellectual property that ensures that the business maintains its market-leading reputation for innovation and leading product performance. Foster a team environment for innovation for new and upgraded products and services drive innovation practices by utilizing the inspired workforce to make improvements.
  • Leverage leadership competencies and focus on results to ensure team members support and are working towards execution of the team's mission, operating plan, and goals.
  • Actively participate as a key member of the corporate Engineering Steering Team. Influence this core team to seek allocation of resources based on strategic priorities and leverage subject matter experts within the organization.


Experience:
  • B.S. Engineering or Computer Science degree is required. MS, MEM, or MBA is strongly preferred. With a minimum of 15 years' experience in software development, including architecture design with 3+ years' experience leading leaders in a diverse set of technical teams in support of product and technology improvement and development.
  • Experience leading and developing a software engineering team across multiple product lines and disperse locations as well as external contractors is strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, interpersonal, relationship-building skills conducive to team development. Engaging and inspiring direct reports. Instilling a culture of teamwork, team and individual accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Expertise in agile methodology. Agile certification a plus!
  • Experience with creating and developing a long-term product and architecture roadmap based on marketing input and state-of-the-art practices.
  • Project management experience - planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific goals and objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams from research and strategy through successful product implementation and production, with the ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, and reporting on team activities.
  • The ability to coach and mentor project leaders on the creation of plans and ability to break down barriers to complete the project on time with the necessary resources and alignment with key stakeholders
  • Ability to partner and to collaborate with Associates and external partners at all levels.

Preferred:
  • Experience in a related industry (such as robotics, CNC, CAM) highly desired.


Location: Corporate Office in Lebanon/Hanover, NH or Lockport, NY. Relocation assistance is available.

Travel: 25% domestic and international
