Summary of Role:

Reporting to the Vice President of the Communications Infrastructure and Datacenter End Market at GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the Director Optical Communications will have subject matter expertise in

1. Datacenter communications infrastructure
2. High speed wired communications protocols including SERDES, Ethernet and Infiniband
3. Optical module standards and supply chain including OIF and OSFP

The Optical Communications Business Line targets high speed optical communications applications within the Communications Infrastructure and Datacenter end market. Rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are driving increased adoption of high-speed optical communications within datacenters requiring deep domain and thought leadership to help GF develop winning platforms for this market. This position will provide thought leadership for GF and complex multiyear business negotiations with customers.

Essential responsibilities include:

• Understand market dynamics and requirements for Optical Communications applications within the Communications Infrastructure and Datacenter end markets.
  
• Develop customer engagements in partnership with the GLOBALFOUNDRIES Sales organization to understand client's products, product roadmaps and corresponding technology needs.
  
• Identify the GLOBALFOUNDRIES solution including technology platform, differentiating feature(s) and design IP that best serves a customer's needs and drive adoption.
  
• Define the market requirements for new technology features and design IP to be developed in accordance with market needs.
  
• Drive the business case including scope, schedule, resources, demand and pricing model to deliver a technology solution at returns consistent with GLOBALFOUNDRIES growth objectives.
  
• Drive ownership and accountability in responsible organizations such as Sales, Design Enablement, Manufacturing Fab and Supply Chain to deliver to market needs.
  
• Create and deploy compelling presentation collateral to articulate the value of GLOBALFOUNDRIES' solutions to the customer and end-users to drive adoption.
  
• Drive design win targets and create detailed plans to achieve them.
  
• Create a sense of urgency and drive clarity across multi-functional teams to achieve business objectives. Identify issues and address them head-on using data to move complex multi-site programs forward.
  
• Develop strategic relationships with customers and eco-system partners to achieve success across a 5+ year horizon.
  
• Serve as a champion of GLOBALFOUNDRIES technology solutions with strong external presence at technology conferences, trade shows, webinars etc.
  
  

Other Responsibilities:

• Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
  
  

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  
• 7+ Years of Experience in either Datacenter Architecture or Semiconductor Product Company
  
• Knowledge of datacenter architecture and optical communications standards
  
• The individual will need to possess broad technical and business skills to be successful in the role
  
• Travel Requirements: 25% of travel.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  
• Deep domain expertise in optical communications protocols including high speed Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), OIF, OSFP and InfiniBand
  
• Deep domain expertise in optical module development
  
• Experience designing optical-to-electrical interface circuits
  
• Language: Fluency in a second language to support high growth markets
  

Expected Salary Range
$151,500.00 - $321,000.00
