Job Summary:

This Director, Oncology position is responsible for the successful operation of the cancer program for the Wellstar Cobb Medical Center. Facilitates continuity of cancer related care and integrate activities with other major organizational units and hospital departments. Establishes objectives, develops and implements plans to achieve corporate goals. Determines the organizational structure and directs staff to carry out plans. Measures results and takes appropriate corrective actions to ensure achievement of objectives. Develops, proposes and implements policies.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Operations of Cobb Hospital he/she will work collaboratively with other leaders within the cancer program to help grow and extend the oncology program. They will serve as a key member of the Wellstar Cancer Network leadership team, supporting the Vice President of Oncology, Medical Director of Oncology at Cobb and at the system-level, and Medical Director of Radiation Oncology to ensure implementation of the Oncology Program strategies based at Wellstar Cobb Hospital.

This leader is responsible for supporting the development of strategic priorities for Wellstar Cobb Hospital with emphasis on building and strengthening the structure around the existing lung tumor site (STAT Clinic) and building additional tumor sites such as GI, Breast, GU, GYN, Neuro, and Head and Neck. These tumor programs are vital clinical services of the Cobb Medical Center Cancer Program and will require managing multiple priorities, working closely with the physician leaders (including Wellstar Medical Group physicians, and other contributing private practicing physicians) and appropriately applying necessary resources needed for these programs to be successful. Each tumor site program will have focus areas around quality, safety, growth strategy, and patient satisfaction. He/she has oversight of the infusion therapy centers within Cobb Hospital (Tower Road location and Cobb Outpatient Center) and the Radiation Oncology Center at Cobb. He/She has community authority along with Cobb Hospital Cancer Medical Director and participates and organizes community events for cancer, such as Survivor's Day, Relay for Life, and other American Cancer Society / cancer related events.

This individual must be able to evaluate large amounts of data and leverage this data to drive productive change in quality, outcomes, operational efficiencies and market growth. Additionally, he/she is responsible for performing and overseeing a wide variety of operational responsibilities relative to personnel management, budget development, financial management, compliance, physician satisfaction, and employee engagement and performance improvement. Other responsibilities include achieving quality outcomes and customer / patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsible manner. The Director can perform job functions utilizing independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative with ability to interact and direct successful operation within multidisciplinary specialty physician groups practicing at Cobb Hospital.

Provides leadership and direction in the development and execution of strategies to manage oncology operations that are consistent with our culture, strategic business objectives, and continuous quality improvement.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Service Line Coordination
- Collaborates with medical staff, administration, department managers and staff to develop goals, objectives and strategic/communications/marketing/sales plans for the continued growth and development of the service line. Day-today operations (Leadership)
- Assures coordination of all aspects of the delivery of cancer services at the hospital and its departments. Demonstrates leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving. Meets with team regarding departmental operations, develops plans to ensure goals are successfully met. Serves as a mediator between team, physicians and others as required. Cultivates positive relationships between departments. Exhibits and promotes a can-do attitude. Supports or leads affiliated committees, task force and other groups to support organizational mission such as the tumor site sub-committees. Budgetary and financial management

Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop budgets for the cancer center and the cancer service line. Prepares budgets realistically reflecting needed expenditures of assigned functions. Develops strategies to identify and monitor the cost of the delivery of cancer care. Determines resources and actions required to accomplish objectives. Sets priorities and manage time effectively. Identifies potential problems/opportunities and plan contingent actions. Take appropriate corrective actions to ensure operations are managed within approved budgets.

Plans for future needs of the service and collaborative areas, including personnel, equipment, supplies program development, inter-department and institutional relationships to maintain market competitiveness in the community. Monitors budget variances and monthly cost center responsibility report responses. Reviews productivity reports with departmental leaders to review benchmarks relative to staffing/labor and expenses as measured by Kronos Analytics and ACTION OI for all areas. Quality, Safety, Accreditation, and Regulatory
- Promotes quality improvement, safety, and growth activities for the Cobb Tumor specific programs within the service line. Monitors key outcome data for all cost centers. Utilizes outcome data to improve practice, process flow and evidenced practices. Implements and continuously aligns processes to maintain and improve quality outcomes. Promotes evidence-based practice and ethical accountability. Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance quality patient care and improve work processes, especially focusing on clinical and operational outcomes. Promotes safety in the work environment and delivery of patient care. Assures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Meets or exceeds performance and quality improvement standards for assigned area (oncology services). Ensures compliance of State, Federal, Joint Commission regulations in all departments. Leads the accreditation efforts with NAPBC and CoC for Cobb based services. Works through ASQ and Cancer Committees to track progress throughout the year. Implements and maintains Scope of Service for all departments. Ensures high quality, cost effective, patient-centered care is delivered in all areas or responsibility. Monitors patient satisfaction surveys on an on-going basis through Press Ganey Survey reports and makes appropriate recommendations, changes based on trending and survey results. Provide timely follow-up with patient / family concerns or issues. Ensures timely service recovery performed as needed all departments. Medical Staff and Community Relations
- Establishes, maintains and enhances communication among oncology-related physicians, Cobb Hospital Center medical staff, medical center staff, community and appropriate healthcare agencies and the public. Communicates and listens effectively by expressing ideas clearly and persuasively. Is proficient, organized and succinct in making formal presentations. Writes with clarity, impact and an appropriate style.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree Required and
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Preferred or related field is strongly Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

    Required Minimum Experience:

    Experience in Lean Six Sigma Preferred and
    Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience, including four (4) years of management experience with significant focus business and financial acumen is required
    Minimum 5 years of experience in oncology services is required
    Operational management experience is required
    Oncology regulatory and accreditation compliance experience is required

    Required Minimum Skills:

    Budgeting, financial management and service management required.
    Performance management skills, financial acumen, strategic planning, communication skills, knowledge of industry standards, leadership and interpersonal skills;
    analytical skills to solve technical problems as well as abstract reasoning to define course of actions when information may be vague or unclear.
    The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language, as well as possess the ability to organize and present data in a detailed, legible and compelling manner.
    Additionally, this role requires organizational skills that enable the individual to react and perform under stress and emergency situations, and to manage multiple priorities on an on-going basis.
    Management skills to effectively lead employees in a task-oriented environment, time management skills to meet scheduled and non-scheduled operational deadlines, analytical skills to prepare and manage budget.
