POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Operations is responsible for directing the manufacturing operations of a $20-25M business with manufacturing facilities in East Aurora, NY and St. Kitts. The position is responsible for directing the manufacturing of quality products that are delivered on time to customer-required dates, within budget. This position is accountable for providing a safe work environment, achieving production goals, meeting product cost targets, maintaining proper inventory levels, and a minimum overhead structure. Critical success factors for this role include the application of lean tools (DMP, VRK, SW, 5S), utilizing a disciplined Daily Management process, developing talent, and building effective teams.

This position will be joining the Delevan team in East Aurora, NY. Delevan is part of Thomson Linear and Altra (AIMC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates within budget including achieving product cost/margin forecasts.
  • Uses daily management to ensure continuous flow in the facility.
  • Applies visual management to monitor daily safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity on the production floor and quickly identifies and addresses potential issues.
  • Provides and achieves accurate shipment forecasts.
  • Maintains optimal inventory levels.
  • Applies the Altra Business System (ABS) tools to achieve operating performance targets and improve quality, on-time delivery, cost savings, cycle times, lead times, and inventory reduction.
  • Coaches and mentors direct reports.
  • Develops associates in a manner which meets the future needs of the business and annually preparing an HR plan to identify key contributors and areas of organizational and individual development.
  • Ensures a clean and safe work environment in compliance with all MIOSHA, OSHA and EPA related environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensures that facilities and production equipment are safely and aesthetically maintained.
  • Leads the production startup processes for new product introduction.
  • Manages within the collective bargaining agreement and proactively engages with the Union Committee to address issues and opportunities.


Job Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Operations, Engineering, or Business.
  • 5+ years experience in an operations leadership role in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Multi-site operations management experience is required; global site leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven track record in leading, driving, and sustaining successful lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Experience creating budgets and preparing capital expenditure plans.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • US citizenship required for ITAR regulations.
  • Experience in electronic component manufacturing is preferred.
