Director, Medical Affairs (Ph.D. with Fellowship Training or Pathologist)

At our Indianapolis location, there is an opening for a candidate with training and/or experience in Clinical Chemistry. We are seeking a candidate to contribute specialized expertise to the Medical Affairs team. Our group includes six on-site pathologists with backgrounds in surgical pathology, immunology, cytopathology, and hematopathology. We are considering both M.D. and Ph.D. candidates and will accept applications from either of two training backgrounds:

• An AP/CP pathologist with an interest/background or fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry

• A Ph.D. scientist with fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry and American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) board eligibility / certification

Candidates with experience as well as those currently or recently completing fellowship training are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be board certified / eligible in anatomic and clinical pathology with a background in clinical chemistry and knowledge of related laboratory techniques or a Ph.D. candidate certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC).

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide consultative and laboratory support to Covance and its internal and external customers.
• Oversee laboratory / other functions requiring specialized expertise in Clinical Chemistry.
• Review laboratory testing results, including SPEP / IFE.
• Analyze and respond to inquiries by clinical trials customers.
• Participate in investigator meetings or client visits to provide support for clinical trials.
• Implement quality standards and help assure regulatory and legal compliance.
• Collaborate in development and validation of methods and selection of appropriate tests.

Pathologist applicants will have additional responsibilities outside of Clinical Chemistry:

• Participate in review and approval of new test offerings / service feasibilities related to AP.
• Review abnormal peripheral blood smears.
• Analyze and respond to medical / pathology-related inquiries by clinical trials customers.
• Oversee medical decision-making and fulfill laboratory / other functions requiring a pathologist.
• Collaborate in global trials involving whole slide imaging and artificial intelligence platforms.

Education/Qualifications:

• American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) board eligibility / certification is required for Ph.D. candidates.
• Board certification / eligibility in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology is required for M.D. candidates.

Experience:

• Experience and/or training in Clinical Chemistry is required.
• Ability to effectively interact with clients at meetings and conferences is essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
