About the job:

Under general direction, directs and coordinates functions in the defined clinical service area(s) to ensure quality clinical care. Ensures the delivery of quality, safe, and effective nursing care. Is responsible for maintaining budgets and directing productivity. Leads and guides the nursing workforce with utilization of evidenced based practice. Is responsible for short- and long-term planning, financial accountability, human resource management, recruitment, fostering and developing physician and provider relationships and oversight of regulatory compliance.

What you will do:
  • Administers the provision of safe, economic and efficient patient services in accordance with quality standards and assures that documentation reflects the same on clinical records. Oversees the practice of nursing in the implementation of nursing practice standards as they relate to the Emergency and Critical Care Services.
  • Actively participates in interviewing and hiring processes. Oversight and participation in coaching, counseling, discipline processes as well as performance appraisals; completes performance appraisals for Clinical Nurse Managers.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director(s) and Managers in the provision of services.
  • Oversees the practice of nursing in all areas of responsibility collaborating with the Chief Nurse Executive. Ensures delivery of quality care within the departments served.
  • Serves as the Liaison for EMS providers and MercyOne Air Care.
  • Takes an active role in community programs, collaborates with community agencies, and serves on or promotes various committees throughout the community and state.
  • Oversees the operations, monitoring the appropriate contracts and evaluates the hospital-wide impact of a Level II Trauma Center.
  • Collaborates with internal and external agencies to facilitate the requirements of OSHA, American College of Surgeons, State Department of Health, TJC, and third-party payors, including Medicare and Medicaid. Responsible to ensure departments maintaining Joint Commission Compliance/Conditions of Participation.
  • Collaborates with medical staff with ongoing communication and participation in various Medical Staff Offices committees with special emphasis on communication/collaboration with medical directors of assigned responsibilities.
  • Forecasts future departmental and organizational requirements based on trends in healthcare as related to program development, space needs and fiscal realities. Works with physicians, staff, and other stakeholders to determine potential capital expenditures
What we are looking for:
  • Requires an RN license in the State of Iowa, or state of residence if the candidate resides in a compact state
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in Nursing or related field.
  • National certification in specialty area is required within one year of hire.
  • Requires a minimum of three to five years progressive management experience. Must have working knowledge base of assigned services.
  • Excellent interpersonal/listening skills to interact effectively with individuals of all backgrounds, experience and educational levels.
