Purpose

The Director of Business Development is responsible of all the business development cycle for transmission opportunities identification and origination to final bid submission and/or project agreements negotiation, including final hand over to the corresponding project team or the Projects organization. She/He will be responsible for directing and guiding the resources of the Business Development team, and will participate in the discussions with partners, clients and counterparties as deemed necessary or convenient for the success of the projects. The Director of Business Development will report to the VP, Business Development, and will be responsible for achieving the growth targets defined in the long-term investment plans or the annual budgets of AVANGRID Networks.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the responsibility over all the business development cycle, from opportunity identification and origination (opportunity screening, project conception and preliminary design, negotiation of preliminary development agreements and contractual framework, etc.) to proposal submissions (design, creation, internal review, investment dossiers, submission, negotiations of projects agreements, follow-up), both in competitive and negotiated processes for transmission.
  • Guides and directs Business Development opportunities, from its identification to final hand over to the execution team.
  • As a key member of the Business Development leadership team, participates in the definition of overall growth targets and is responsible for achieving the transmission growth targets.
  • Establish resource plans and coordinate the internal needs with the rest of the departments in the Business Development organization.
  • Prepare and provide periodic reports to the VP Business Development on a regular basis.
  • Interacts with other Networks Business Areas, AVANGRID Corporate Areas or Global Networks Areas or IBERDROLA Corporate Areas in order to meet goals and objectives.
  • Participates in contacts and negotiations with external stakeholders, including project partners, clients, system operators or regulatory entities to the extent necessary.
  • Participate in internal business development forums and external energy and transmission forums.


  • Skills and Requirements

    Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business Administration (Master's Degree preferred) and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience required.
    • Preferably 5 years of experience in director roles, leading development teams with multinational and multidisciplinary contributions.
    • Strong experience in project development or business development in different regions or geographies and, preferably in different countries.
    • Experience in leading projects under development with associated investments of at least $300M and overall knowledge of the development phases of these initiatives.
    • Experience in leading bid teams and/or in negotiations with partners or clients of long-term agreements with associated investments or value of at least $300M.
    • Experience in starting new activities or new businesses will be highly appreciated.
