It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses - are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing is a registered professional nurse who has responsibility and accountability for establishing and maintaining excellence in nursing and clinical practice within their defined area/s of responsibility in the Wellstar Medical Group (WMG). This leader is a member of the Chief Nursing Officer's administrative team and is responsible for engagement in the development and implementation of nursing's strategic plan that is aligned with the strategic plan for the System. The Director of Nursing reports to the Executive Director of Nursing and has primary responsibility and oversight of the Nursing Administrator role and associated standard work. An essential and pivotal leader in the WMG leadership structure, this role serves as the nursing voice and subject matter expert to support high quality and safe care delivery by a qualified and competent clinical workforce. The Director of Nursing works closely with a variety of stakeholders, helping to coordinate ambulatory operations across assigned area/s, and serves as facilitator of collaborative, professional relationships between and among operational leadership and medical staff for the purpose of creating a healthy and supportive environment for patients and families, and staff.

The Director of Nursing is a standard bearer for nursing empowerment, shared decision-making, and the creation and maintenance of a culture of professionalism that supports an engaged and committed clinical workforce. It is required that all nurse leaders are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the Nursing Services team, it is expected the individual upholds the voice of the patient, and WMG and system policies and procedures, while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

• Provides direction and leadership to ensure Wellstar Health System meets the 'Quadruple Aim' of great
patient care and improved population health within an efficient cost structure, while improving the work life of providers and staff.
• Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, represents ambulatory nursing across the WMG, and collaborates with appropriate nursing and operational leadership to align priorities and standards in clinical practice.
• Collaborates with Nurse Administrators to provide vision, direction, leadership, and support to the nursing leaders and clinical staff within assigned area/s.
• Provides guidance for the nursing structure within the Wellstar Medical • Remains well-versed to provide role clarity and articulate scope of practice for all licensed and unlicensed clinical support staff.
• Oversees the development, implementation and adherence to WMG clinical policies and procedures, standing orders, and protocols.
• Collaborates across organizational lines to facilitate hospital, clinic and nursing operations to ensure patient needs are met across the continuum of care.
• Facilitates an environment that promotes patient safety, high reliability of processes, and quality outcomes.
• Participates in and assures compliance with regulatory standards. Maintains a thorough understanding of requirements and standards.
• Facilitates the development and implementation of evidence-based practice to ensure quality outcomes and nurse-sensitive indicator benchmarks are achieved based on internal and external benchmarks.
• Interprets and applies the effective use of data and evidence to problem solve and support decision-making for clinical efficiencies and the delivery of safe, high-quality care.
• Promotes the development and implementation of inter-and intra-disciplinary research, quality, and evidenced-based practice.
• Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into ambulatory practice.
• Is a role model for the actions, values, and principles necessary to achieve organizational goals.

Workforce Development

• Maintains a focus on management and retention of licensed and unlicensed personnel. • Contributes and provides oversight of onboarding program for clinical new hires. • Serves as direct owner, executive sponsor or nursing champion of workforce development programs. Promotes workforce development programs within assigned area/s. • Develops and supports mechanisms to reward and recognize excellence in ambulatory care.

Intra/Interdiscilinary Teamwork and Collaboration

• Cultivates a culture of support for shared governance and professional nursing practice within the WMG.
• Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinions, recognizes differences, and embraces innovative thinking.
• Effectively communicates to diverse audiences on nursing, healthcare and organizational issues, and this includes the ability to set standards and holds leaders and staff accountable for performance standards.
• Establishes partnerships by employing strong relationship building skills with all medical group leaders by striving to understand others and situations and keeping the long view in mind. Is fair and just, using reflective practice skills to monitor self and leader performance/interaction skills, exercising coaching and guiding skills.
• Creates opportunities for self and leaders to grow professionally and implements a desirable workplace to recruit and retain talented ambulatory nursing leaders.
• Partners with WMG Educators to develop a robust, ongoing educational program that supports clinical competency of licensed and unlicensed clinical staff.
• Contributes to the department budgeting process.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in nursing (BSN) from accredited nursing school - Required and
Master's Degree in Nursing Required or related field - Required

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 7 years of experience as a Registered Nurse

Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing leaderhip in a healthcare setting

Minimum 2 years of experience working in a physician practice setting as a nurse in any capacity

Requred Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

Reg Nurse license - single state or multi-state compact

Basic Life Support - required within 60 days

Required Minimum Skills:

Excellent verbal and writtten communication skills

Ability to manage and influence change, including implementing and managing a change process; ability to use systems thinking, inspire, and coach other to be successful

Knowledge of quality and patient safety, risk managment, infection prevention, and other regulatory standards that apply to the ambulatory care setting
