Background Information

Global Communities is a non-governmental organization working at the nexus of humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, and financial inclusion in more than 35 countries. Our mission is to bring together local ingenuity and global insights to save lives, advance equity, and secure strong futures.

With funding provided by FAHU Foundation, Global Communities has created and is managing the Digital Savings Group (DSG) Hub-an online learning and community platform aimed at facilitating thoughtful, safe, and inclusive digitization of savings groups. The overall goal of the Hub is to help actors make sound decisions about whether and how to digitize savings groups effectively. The DSG Hub contains a wide variety of practical resources to support savings group members and practitioners on their digitization journeys. It also serves as a tool for an ongoing community engagement, allowing diverse actors from across the industry to connect with one another, share insights and experiences, and learn from successes and shortcomings in the sector.

Global Communities is seeking an expert consultant to assist in the implementation of phase 2 of the DSG Hub project between July and December 2022.

About the Consultancy

The consultant will be responsible for providing technical assistance and managing various aspects of the DSG Hub project, including community mobilization and user engagement; marketing and communications; and content development. The consultant will play an integral role on the DSG Hub team, working closely with the Project Director and Sr. Technical Gender Advisor at Global Communities and the subcontractor responsible for website development, hosting, and maintenance. It is anticipated that the consultant will spend no more than 21.5 days working on the project between July and December 2022. The period of engagement may be extended.

Location of Work

Consultant's home of record or as otherwise agreed. Travel is not currently anticipated.

Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Technical Assistance

  • Provide advice and technical assistance to the project's team and Steering Committee; participate in bi-weekly team meetings and bi-monthly Steering Committee meetings, respond to team emails
  • Update, on a bi-monthly basis, the monitoring tool (including key performance indicators) and risk analysis

Outreach, Marketing, and Community Engagement


  • Manage and cultivate active engagement of the Advisory Board and Key Community Contributors; organize and lead two Advisory Board meetings
  • Conduct extensive outreach and marketing to promote the DSG Hub and demonstrate its value to the savings group community
  • Moderate the DSG Hub site and promote active and high-quality user engagement on the site
  • Design and implement user experience survey and other feedback mechanisms as needed
  • Update (bi-monthly), maintain, and implement the "Outreach and Communication Plan"



Content Development and Editing


  • Solicit at least two new community content submissions; work with contributors to prepare their content for publication (e.g., through ideation, review, light editorial support, ensuring compliance with the Content Submission Guidelines)
  • Coordinate review of all other content submissions with the Advisory Board
  • Author at least one new blog post

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in international development, including proven track record of working on financial inclusion and/or savings group programming; experience with digital savings groups or digital financial services/tools a strong asset
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; graduate degree preferred
  • Strong project, stakeholder, and team management skills
  • Experience building/facilitating communities of practice and/or learning collaboratives
  • Demonstrated ability to lead outreach and/or marketing campaigns
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of web design and/or WordPress an asset.
