Job Description

TheBattery Systems ElectricalDesign Release Engineer is responsible for releasingelectricalparts and subsystems such as Wiring, Busbars, HV Headers, LV connectors, BDU and SFM. This individual will also leadingathering, negotiating, updating, and documenting requirements for the assigned product and will be the single-point contact between GM and the supply base. The DRE will participate in highly complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions with a blend of program management and technical leadership. They will also be responsibleto leadanddevelopstrategic solutions to achieve business initiatives for safety, warranty cost and quality.Capable of managing very broad or numerous projects withhighdegree of difficulty. Exercises independent judgment, with minimal input from supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads overall communication, coordination, and consultation with engineering departments and customers for responsible components
  • Establishes designs to meet program performance and timing requirements
  • Balances requirements across systems
  • Own/Release the hardware for development & production
  • Assure that all Electrical and Mechanical interfaces are defined and documented including packaging of components
  • Negotiate changes from supplier, Electrical Architecture, Controls, Software and Cyber Security Engineers and update controller requirement documents
  • Support cost savings initiatives.
  • Facilitate requirements and design reviews with suppliers, (DFMEA, DRBFM, Peer Reviews)
  • Gather all necessary documents for sourcing and provide technical expertise during purchasing process
  • Organizes and leads Product Development Team (PDT) meetings.
  • Keep supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones (design freeze, gate reviews for prototype levels, validation start and complete dates)
  • Analyzes design through design failure modes effects analysis (DFMEA)
  • Plans and implements complex test and/or development programs
  • Demonstrates that designs meet requirements through analysis, development and validation processes
  • Represents business unit in vendor and/or customer contacts
  • Releases final designs for manufacturing or purchase as appropriate
  • Conducts incident analysis and ensures problem resolution
  • Implements engineering changes
  • Initiates and evaluates cost studies, product suggestions and value analyses
  • Defines hardware and budget requirements for experimental build programs
  • Ensures designs meet serviceability requirements
  • Actively participates in product management team
  • Leads product development team(s)
  • Supports supplier quality assurance process
  • Support warranty issue resolution
  • Support technical specialist in establishing component/system requirements
  • Participates in work groups with interactive/interfacing hardware/software teams as required
  • Travels as required

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering Discipline
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
  • Understanding of engineering theory/principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Familiarity working with vehicle integration issues
  • Familiarity working with suppliers
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Experience in problem solvingHighly developed oral and written communications skills

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering Discipline
  • At least 5 years minimum related experience
  • Background in automotive system hardware engineering (development and/or release)
  • Knowledge of GM warranty system
  • Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with and motivate others
  • Very high level of analyticalproblem solvingskills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
