The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Psychiatry is seeking a Clinical Trials Research Assistant to assist in the performance of clinical research by managing subject recruitment and enrollment, administrating study protocols, assisting in the processing and management of data obtained, maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines and documents, gathering information and assist in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports, and performing human resources/leadership and financial responsibilities as indicated.
Job Duties to include:

  • Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of research techniques and procedures relating to the performance of medical/psychiatric research.
  • Assist in developing project data management plans; design forms to facilitate the collection and tracking of study participant data, study drugs, biological specimens and study procedures.
  • Recruit potential study participants via known registries, applicable clinics, and travel to conferences and collaborative sites; respond to inquiries about assigned projects and present at informational sessions and panel discussions. Track and follow up with prospective study participants within project guidelines.
  • Screen potential study participants based upon project criteria and gauge both parent and child understanding of study expectations.
  • Manage the scheduling of testing and appointments, including arrangement of travel, on-site room and equipment reservations, coordination of the test day agenda, and confirmation of arrangements with scheduled study participants.
  • Explain project procedures to participants, obtain informed consent and other required regulatory documents, and monitor participant experience for reportable events.
  • Prepare and administer tests of cognition and behavior with minor children and adults; assist parents of minor children in completion of project forms and questionnaires.
  • Score and record data collected. Perform all data processing tasks; enter data, verify data, identify problem data and generate queries. Assist in managing data validation, query resolutions and reporting data; conduct audit to assess quality assurance.
  • Maintain contact information of project participants in a secure database and proactively manage scheduling of follow up study visits to comply with project longitudinal goals.
  • Maintain regulatory compliances and conduct audit to assess quality assurance; summarize results of audits and write reports.
  • If necessary, perform library research on specified topics and prepare bibliographies and abstracts according to instructions. Assist in the preparation of material for reports to be written by faculty and staff on research projects. Prepare information upon request for reporting to funding source(s).

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or health science field
  • Experience in administering cognitive and behavioral tests with children
  • Knowledge of neuroanatomy
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to work independently and set and execute work priorities.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to compose grammatically correct documents in a concise, logical and organized manner.
  • High degree of attention to detail and a high level of organization skills
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in an academic healthcare center, hospital or other medical setting
  • Knowledge of UI policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Certification as a psychometrician or an equivalent related accreditation
  • One or more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of social science research
