Description
Position: Database AdministratorDepartment: University Libraries, Digital InitiativesExempt; MR11Job Description:We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our Digital Initiatives team at the University of Tennessee Libraries. The Database Administrator will be responsible for the development, maintenance, performance, and integrity of the data and database environments supporting the key areas of publishing, researching, learning, and preservation. The scope for this position will handle both the traditional database administration and the emerging technologies of data management. Reporting to the Director of Digital Initiatives, the Database Administrator will work in a results-driven team environment to deliver timely projects for repository systems, publishing platforms, library websites, and many other vendor-hosted and in-house applications. Some essential tasks of this role will include planning database structures & data models, designing data pipelines, maintaining clean & accurate data, automating tests & validation methods for data, ensuring good practices for data preservation, supporting legacy databases, and managing the data storage.Key Responsibilities:

    Develop, maintain, and optimize database environments.Analyze and solve complex technical problems related to library systems’ data.Collaborate with project teams to identify and implement data requirements.Create and maintain documentation on the library databases.Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in data management.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
    High school diploma and four years IT experience, or an Associate's degree and three years of IT experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of IT experience.Knowledge in relational databases and query languages like SQL, MariaDB, and Postgres.Knowledge in object storage technologies and non-relational databases.Skills with unstructured, structured, and semi-structured data.Knowledge in standard practices for databases and data security.Skills in one programming language for transforming, managing, and querying data from databases, applications, and other sources.Knowledge of database server environments, hosting platforms for data, and containerization of database applications.Ability to prioritize work among several projects and communicate effectively with stakeholders.Ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Programming, or related field.Experience with academic libraries and library technologies.2 years of experience in database administration and/or other data management fields.Proficient with Python or equivalent language for scripting bulk operations.Knowledge of streaming data processes and how to make use of them with SaaS/PaaS applications.Skills in Solr, ElasticSearch, or OpenSearch.Ability to work with data on cloud platforms like AWS and manage the performance and scale.Knowledge of digital repositories and academic use cases for data storage.
