Job Description:

ECS is seeking a Data Engineer to work in a hybrid remote / on-site capacity in our Fairfax, VA office (~3 business days per week, at the Project Manager's direction). The Data Engineer will work as part of a team responsible for designing, developing, and installing a DoD Mission Partner network enclave's Cloud infrastructure. The Data Engineer will work in a demanding, high-energy environment that requires innovative solutions to network, hardware, software, and operational challenges, and will report directly to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze data, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data formats.
  • Collaborate with the project team and stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop solutions to address business challenges.
  • Implement data quality checks and monitoring processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval processes for performance and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data pipelines, workflows, and systems architecture.
  • Track industry trends and leverage them to drive innovation and solution excellence across various functional domains.
  • Process improvement, normalization/de-normalization, data extraction, data cleansing, data manipulation (data wrangling).
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple sources.
  • Function as customer data Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Required Skills:
  • US citizenship required per contract.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; Information Systems Management; or similar Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
  • Local resource with the ability to work in a hybrid remote / onsite capacity in Fairfax, Virginia (~3 business days onsite, at the Project Manger's direction).
  • 3+ years of hands-on work experience in one of the related areas: Data Science, Data Engineering, and ETL.
  • Experience with data exploration, normalization, curation, and AI/ML data operations.
  • Familiarity with API creation and management (e.g. Flask, Apigee, API Gateway, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Python, R, Linux shell and scripting languages.
  • Technical proficiency with transforming structured and unstructured data sets (e.g. CSV, JSON, text, imagery).
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, as well as file and object storage.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, Foundry, C3AI, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data ingestion management applications/services (e.g. Kafka, Nifi, StreamSets, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, and presentation skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and communicate technical terms to non-technical audiences with an impeccable attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated customer focus and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of AI/ML operations and development-to-field lifecycle.
Desired Skills:

Preference shown to candidates with:
  • Active DoD TS security clearance.
  • Experience working within a DoD cloud and on-premises environment.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficiency with Linux command line.
  • Familiarity with CDAO's Advana platform.
  • Familiarity with JSON and YAML configuration.
  • Working with application development tools, standards, and languages.
  • Ability to quickly learn, understand, and work with new emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the cloud/IT technology space.
  • Knowledge of Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II qualification (e.g. Security+ CE).
