About This Job

The main purpose of this job is to support Risk Management in developing plans and methods to identify and analyze analytical tools/processes throughout the Bank that may pose various risk and to participate in data intensive initiatives as needed as a representative of the second line of defense.

Essential Functions

  • Work with management to develop a methodology that identifies tools that require independent validation
  • Perform initial planning and scoping activities with management for the tool that will be validated
  • Develop and execute a validation plan that tests the conceptual soundness, governance structure, and applicability of ongoing monitoring for certain tools used throughout the Bank
  • Work with management to craft recommendations for potential risks present within the tool/process
  • Design and lead data projects for examinations, data intensive regulatory processes, or other Risk Management data initiatives
  • Develop metrics and data analytic tests to effectively evaluate different tools and partner with management to interpret the results
  • Assist with data mining projects throughout Risk Management during the exam planning process, and for periodic compliance monitoring assessments, by helping determine available data sources/tools (e.g. OnDemand, Business Objects, ACL, etc.) and techniques to evaluate those sources
  • Assist Risk Management monitoring teams with development of analytics to assess large, comprehensive data sets for compliance with various laws and regulations
  • Actively seek out best practices and emerging trends both internally and externally to provide recommendations for how to leverage new techniques to manage risks
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to Risk Management department staff, which may, at a minimum, include the following: technical training and mentoring, maintaining current knowledge of technology industry trends and practices and working with other Risk Management staff to evaluate technology impacts in their reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis, including data extraction tools and technology (preferably Power BI, ACL, Business Objects, AQT, SQL, or similar) and MS Access
  • Intermediate understanding of relational database concepts and queries
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize and explain technical data/processes
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and document processes, data, procedures, and controls
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage interrelated and/or complex issues and to respond to changes regarding project objectives, scope, or deadlines.
  • Intermediate presentation, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Accounting, or other Business focused degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree in a technical field or a business-related such as Data Science, Actuarial Science, Applied Statistics, MBA or MSF preferred.
  • 4+ years data analysis experience with progressively increasing responsibility and performance or technical internal audit, with proven data analysis experience required
  • Advanced hands on experience in Statistical Software (e.g. SAS, R, Python) and big data environments (e.g. cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure, Snowflake), and on-prem (e.g. Hadoop), as well as traditional data warehouse environments (e.g. Teradata) required
  • Financial institution experience or familiarity with the industry preferred
  • Technical knowledge of financial industry processes preferred
