Job Description

Academic Req: Required - High school diploma, or equivalent Preferred - 2-year associate degree from accredited program/institution, or two or more years of college-level course work in a related human services field.

Certifications: First aid, CPR, Emergency behavior intervention.

Work experience: Required - 1-year related experience and/or training in a related human services field Preferred - 2 plus years' related experience and/or training in a related human services field Full-Time.

Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:

1. Be the first responder for crisis intervention during mental health crisis.

2. Spend maximum time on the floor monitoring activities and children for potential incidents of behavioral crisis.

3. Monitor staff interactions with minors and provide training feedback where needed.

4. Assist Program leadership with reporting of restraints.

5. Participate in treatment team meetings.

6. Communicate in a positive and respectful manner with children, families and all agency staff including supervisors, co-workers, therapists, student interns, and volunteers.

7. Frequently traverse from one area of the facility to another both indoors and outdoors as needed to provide direct supervision of children.

8. Effectively communicate behavioral expectations and program regulations to children and enforce compliance with regulations and expectations by all children assigned to the worker.

9. Complete all required documentation prior to completion of shift.

10. Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program supervisor and federal partners.

11. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.

2. Document all serious incidents, daily progress and activities completely, accurately and in a timely manner and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.

3. Assist with orientation of new children and staff.

4. Provide input into development of treatment plans as appropriate or requested.

5. Use positive child management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.

6. Assist other direct care staff by mentoring and modeling de-escalation and best practices to avoid children in care from further escalating.

7. Plan, organize and supervise activities for children in accordance with the daily activity schedule.

8. Teach constructive behavior and social skills, realistic problem-solving behaviors, responsible time and money management, conversational English, personal hygiene and life skills.

9. Maintain a secure campus environment by making rounds as required, and by using proper application of radio communication protocols including responding to all radio calls.

10. Take actions to promote positive interaction between children and encourage children to take responsibility in the daily routine of the facility.

11. Model culturally and socially desired behaviors while explaining the behaviors to children to facilitate learning and replication of the behaviors.

12. Staff will work varying shifts that encompass those periods of unstructured and leisure time for children, or those times identified by incident trends. Staff will be expected to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor.

13. Implement Compliance Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.

14. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.

15. Maintain Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections' employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, children, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.

Requirements:

1. Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position but not limited to:

a. First Aid

b. CPR

c. Emergency Behavior Intervention

d. Other:

2. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.

3. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.

4. Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.

5. Demonstrate the ability to:

1. Respond sensitively and competently to the service population's cultural and socio- economic characteristics.

2. Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals, and children.

3. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.

4. Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population.

5. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.

6. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

6. Must complete and sign Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification.

7. Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, titers, or declinations for the following:

1. MMR

2. Varicella

3. Hep B

4. Hep A

5. Tetanus

6. PPD

7. Meningococcal (preferred)

8. Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, standing, stretching, and bending.

9. Must be able to work in a team environment and have the ability to effectively coach and mentor staff.

10. Must be able to maintain professional people skills, oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.

11. Staff will attend a variety of advanced trainings in crisis communication, de-escalation technique, and emergency behavioral intervention.

5. Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards.
