Barton College is hiring for a full-time, 12-month Coordinator of Campus Life. This is a live-in position with on-call responsibilities and some late-night and weekend programming responsibilities.

Reporting to the Director of Campus Life, the Coordinator of Campus Life serves a critical role in designing a vibrant campus life experience for students, fostering students' meaningful engagement in co-curricular programs, cultivating thriving student organizations, and enhancing the leadership development of all students. This role will provide leadership within the Campus Life area in developing, implementing, marketing, and assessing student-facing programs that contribute to the overall vision and delivery of Campus Life programming. The coordinator will have particular responsibility for programming associated with leadership and student organizations but will support all campus life programming under the leadership of the Director of Campus Life.

Key ResponsibilitiesCampus Life Programming
  • Under the leadership of the Director of Campus Life, develop and deliver programming to meet student needs and college goals, with a particular focus on leadership and student organizations.
  • Give particular attention to activities which develop leadership, which enhance student engagement in the life of the college, which support college initiatives, and which connect to college-wide goals on retention, graduation, and attainment.
  • Ensure that student-led or -designed programming is well-designed, overseen, and administered.
  • Work to enact the Barton Experience through programming and student interactions.
  • Key Campus Life programming areas include:
    • Leadership
    • Clubs and Organizations
    • Spirituality
    • Campus Activities Board
    • Student Government Association
    • Fraternities and Sororities
    • Signature Events
    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (in coordination other campus DEI initiatives)
Other Departmental, Divisional, and College Initiatives

Provide support in all areas of the division of Student Engagement and Success, as guided by the Provost. Such support may include items such as:

  • Responding to student crises
  • Supporting the delivery of holiday and break airport shuttle services
  • Assisting in the administration of the Department's planning, goal-setting, budgeting, reporting, assessment, and program review initiatives
  • Addressing resolution of basic student conduct matters as directed by the Director of DEI, Conduct, and Title IX.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the Department's publications, such as the Student Handbook and marketing materials
  • Representing the Department at Admissions Office open houses and other events
  • Reviewing policies and procedures and recommending revisions on a regular basis
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the Department web pages, updating information as needed
  • Attending committee meetings as necessary and assisting with other campus-sponsored projects
  • Participating in College/Divisional activities pertinent to the well-being of students and the college community
  • Serving on College committees, teams, and task forces
  • Establishing and maintaining regular rapport with student support services, Athletics, Admissions/Enrollment Management, Public Relations, Dining Services, Campus Police, etc.
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; Master's degree in Higher Education or related field preferred.
  • One to two years demonstrated experience in at least one key area of Campus Life programming (see list above).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to help with the marketing and promotion of campus events.
  • Social media and mobile application use highly desirable.
  • Ability to serve as a role model to a diverse student population through high professional and ethical standards within the field of student affairs.
  • Ability to foster working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and management; and ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal or team building skills.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
