Job Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-4 x per year.

GM is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation. This Engineer will be the primary contact to the Tier1 supplier and will ensure the controller meets requirements and is properly validated.

The Controller Design Release Engineer will lead in gathering, negotiating, updating, and documenting controller requirements for the assigned product program and be the single-point contact between Propulsion and the supplier. You'll participate in solving highly complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Own/Release the Hardware for development & production
  • Own the controller requirements and all changes during development
  • Blend of program management and technical leadership
  • Negotiate changes from supplier, PCAT, Electrical Architecture, Algorithm, and Software Engineers and update controller requirements document
  • Support cost savings initiatives
  • Facilitate requirements and design reviews with suppliers, algorithm and software groups
  • Gather all necessary documents for purchasing process and provide technical expertise during purchasing sourcing process
  • Gather controller requirements from Electrical Architecture, Packaging, Electrical Mechanization, PCAT, CSIL/CSIE, Algorithm, and Software Engineers
  • Organizes and leads key development meetings (PDT, design reviews, DFMEAs)
  • Review and approve controller validation plans-Worst Case Analysis, Bench (Design Demo), Design and Process Validation
  • Build and publish controller specific controller verification requirements
  • Manage and Track Supplier Development Progress
  • Keep supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones (design freeze, gate reviews for prototype levels, validation start and complete dates)
  • Ensures hardware prototypes are validated and available for key vehicle build events (IVER, APPV, PPV, etc.)
  • Support closure of controller related Problem Resolution & Tracking System (PRTS)
  • Releases Base Model Part Number (hardware) and PPAP approval
  • Reports status of key hardware development progress to management
  • Lead/participate in issue resolution for the controller
  • Controller warranty analysis, issue resolution, parts restriction and report updates as the need arises to Team leadership.
  • Monitor warranty via Tri-Charts and design changes in production (via Change Notices)
  • Understand Pareto Charts & Evaluate Controller Returns
  • Participate in controller assembly plant visits
  • Support annual validation requirements
  • Interface with the Integration Team

Additional Job Description

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience working with electronic modules / systems
  • Engineering experience in Quality, Software or Launch exposure
  • Experience with Electromechanical design
  • Experience with warranty systems: GART, QIS2, AQA, SAS EG, Tracker GART etc.
  • Experience with DFMEA
  • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process
  • High level of Interpersonal skill to work effectively with others including global partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead teams to consensus when needed
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of post-graduation engineering experience working with automotive electronic modules / systems
  • Design Release experience preferred
  • Power BI and Tableau experience preferred
  • DFSS Green Belt / Black Belt
