Job Summary

This full-time, fiscal-year permanent position reports to the Client Services manager. The Computer Lab Technician is under general supervision. The Computer Lab Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the computer labs.

This includes troubleshooting hardware and software problems, assisting students, faculty, administration, and staff using the computers and software, and keeping computer systems updated and computer labs clean and organized.

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Maintain the labs, including keeping them clean and organized.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the computers and peripherals.
  • Installs, configures, and tests new computer hardware, including Windows OS and Apple Mac OS.
  • Installs, configures, and tests application software, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Office 365, and other common software packages.
  • Identifies and repairs faults in computer hardware and software, if appropriate, coordinates warranty repair of faulty equipment.
  • Assists in developing computer equipment specifications, deployment procedures and techniques, service procedures, and standards.
  • Integrates computer equipment into the college's local area network.
  • Backup and restore data.
  • Follow all IT policies and procedures.
  • Responds to client requests for service by phone or in person and diagnoses and resolves computer system problems.
  • Provide advice to administration, staff, students, and faculty on using computer equipment.
  • Maintains appropriate records: inventory, work orders, time reporting, documentation, etc.
  • Checks and tests equipment on contracted maintenance, identifies maintenance needs and communicates with contractors.
  • Report any problems to the IT Manager/Supervisor.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in computer science or a related field
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a computer lab environment
  • Equivalent training and or experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to repair, maintain, and install computer equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with contractors.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
