Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the academic year 2021-2022. This position is a one-year appointment; renewal of the position is possible and contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will teach six courses (three separate preps): SOC 100: Introduction to Sociology; SOC 101: Sociology of Gender; and a third course of the instructor's choice. Responsibilities include teaching classes, grading student assignments, developing instructional materials, holding office hours, and supervising teaching assistants. Successful candidates are also expected to establish and maintain an active and independent research program appropriate to their faculty appointment, and to provide service to the department, the University and the profession.

QUALIFACATIONS

Candidates with a Ph.D. in Sociology with the completion date no later than August 1, 2021; an active research agenda; teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence; expertise and experience in teaching Introduction to Sociology are preferred.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track position. The expected start date is August 16, 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
