The Health Policy Research Center at the Mongan Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a full-time paid Research Assistant II to support the research activities of investigators within the Program for Clinical Economics and Policy Analysis.

Reporting to John Hsu, MD, MBA, MSCE, the Clinical Research Coordinator will play a key role in conducting research that examines the clinical and economic effects of health care policy changes in the United States, including insurance coverage expansion, payment reform, and delivery system change. Specific clinical areas include mental health, dementia, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Working in collaboration with a team of researchers, clinicians, economists, and biostatisticians, the CRC's responsibilities could include the following:

• Obtaining and combining novel data sources

• Extracting, cleaning, and analyzing large and complex datasets (e.g., medical claims, survey, clinical outcomes)

• Using appropriate data summary and visualization tools to summarize findings

• Evaluating the impact of health policies on health care access, use, quality, and spending

• Assisting with disseminating findings through presentations and manuscripts

• Conducting literature reviews

• Completing IRB applications

• Assisting with the execution of data use agreements

• Gathering background information on specific policy changes

• Providing coordination support for federal, multi-site projects and team meetings

• Managing relationships with external public and private data owners

• Providing general administrative support to all project members

Qualifications
Applicants must be a recent graduate who has completed coursework in statistics, mathematics, health policy, economics, or a related field. They must have excellent quantitative, analytic, and organizational skills, the ability to work both independently and in a team setting, and have proficient knowledge of US health policy, especially focused on insurance policy, the Affordable Care Act, and health disparities. Prior experience with statistical programs (e.g., Stata, SAS, R), database management, and the research process is required.
