Position Overview:

The Clinical Pharmacist Team Lead position is designed to oversite the weekly operations of the Clinical Pharmacists, strategically plan improvements, and collaborate with pharmacy leadership as well as other departments to improve company performance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of prior authorization regulations for all lines of business.
  • Maintain knowledge of formulary regulations for all lines of business.
  • Maintain active work plan sprints for quality improvement of formularies (clinically, automation, return on investment, etc.)
  • Utilize lean methodologies for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor key performance indicators such as quality metrics, formulary posting and coding actuary, member / provider notifications, meeting follow-up, prior authorizations, approval rates, average review time, calls received, appeals, and appeal overturns.
  • Coordinate business activities by maintaining collaborative partnerships with key departments such as Appeals and Grievance and Medical Directors, and Health Services Utilization Management.
  • Report key performance indicators on scheduled basis (daily with team, weekly with pharmacy leadership, and as needed with higher management and other departments).
  • Actively participate as a key team member in department and supervisor meetings.
  • Actively participate in various strategic and internal committees in order to disseminate information within the organization and represent company philosophy.
  • Responsible for oversight, management, development, implementation, and communication of department programs.
  • Responsible for hiring, staff development, coaching, performance reviews, corrective actions, and termination of employees
  • Provide feedback, including regular one-on-ones and performance evaluations, for direct reports
  • Assist with hiring, staff development, coaching, performance reviews, corrective actions, and termination of employees.

Supporting Responsibilities:
  • Meet department and company performance and attendance expectations
  • Follow the PacificSource privacy policy and HIPAA laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and security of protected health information
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical pharmacist experience. Project oversite and/or delegation experience preferred. At least 2 years of health plan experience preferred. Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Education, Certificates, Licenses: Doctorate of Pharmacy and valid state license without restriction. Additional certifications may be needed such state specific credentials. Certification support may be available for credentials needed post-hire.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge and comprehension of pharmaceutical services, including all federal and state statutes and regulations as they pertain to the insurance-related pharmacy services and benefits administration. Ability to assess pharmaceutical alternatives, treatment plans, drug technologies and new approaches to delivering pharmacy services. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Environment: Work inside in a general office setting with ergonomically configured equipment. Travel is required approximately 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements: Stoop and bend. Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time while performing core job functions. Repetitive motions to include typing, sorting and filing. Light lifting and carrying of files and business materials. Ability to read and comprehend both written and spoken English. Communicate clearly and effectively.
