Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

Responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an education program to maintain the competency, continuing education, and leadership development of perioperative staff members. Supports Eskenazi Health's mission, vision, and values.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical resource for MIPS and Endoscopy staff nursing, Rad tech staff members, and Endoscopy tech using evidenced- based knowledge and standards.
  • Collaborates with managers and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff
  • Assists staff in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement measures
  • Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and use of information technologies
  • Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation
  • Provides remediation and re-education for current staff and documents accordingly
  • Provides educational resources for perioperative staff members
  • Coordinates the design, planning, execution, and evaluation of staff training so as to maintain consistent practices and standards set forth by regulatory and professional organizations including AORN, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI, Joint Commission, AGA, ACG or regulating facilities
  • Assess any potential or actual knowledge deficits and develop education accordingly
  • Establishes and monitors competencies for MIPs and Endoscopy team members
  • Monitors staff member compliance with organization and departmental policies.
  • Collaborates and develops monthly and annual departmental education plan
  • Assist staff members in assessing their individual learning needs and styles
  • Functions as a Staff Nurse II and takes call for all labs

Job Requirements

Five (5) years varied IR/Cath Lab and/or endoscopy services experience. Accredited nursing degree; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Current Indiana Registered nurse licensure.
  • BLS & ACLS certification
  • MSN obtained within five (5) years
  • Computer skills (eg. Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Excel)

Preferred:
  • CCRN
  • Experience presenting educational programs
  • BLS and/or ACLS instructor
  • Knowledge of audiovisual equipment
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the scrub role

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of perioperative standards and education requirements as it relates to hospital programs, JCAHO, State Board of Health, OSHA, AORN, AAMI, AGA, ACG
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects in the MIPS and Endoscopy department.
  • Must be able to follow detailed instruction with minimal supervision.
  • Must be team oriented
  • Must be capable of working well under pressure and deadlines
  • Competency assessment, educational programming, delivery methodology expertise.
  • Function independently, strong decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, education, organizational planning skills.
  • Exhibit strong history of skill development and learning to maintain expertise.
  • Maintain expertise in each Lab Suite, protocols, patient safety, clinical policies, procedures and programs.
  • Requires ability and drive to learn new tasks and be accountable for projects.
  • Proficient as a circulating RN
  • Must have soft skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to work with all staff members
