The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Pathology, in Miami, Florida.

The incumbent is expected to perform the following:


  • Identifies, handles, and accessions patient samples requiring laboratory testing.

  • Transport's specimens and communicates test results timely and accurately.

  • Maintains required laboratory files and logs system in a neat and accurate manner.

  • Performs specimen processing, such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and volume measurement.

  • Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol. Participates in the performance improvement processes for the department.

  • Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.

  • Responsible for generating patient reports and forwarding them to the proper departments/physicians.

  • Investigates and responds to all inquiries or problems related to referral testing.

  • Answers all inquiries made by the Reference Lab, resolves problem associated with improper or inadequate samples responds to all inquiries made by physicians or patient unit personnel related to specimen requirements.

  • Maintains adequate inventory levels as per protocol and rotates previous stock when it applies.

  • Checks packing slips verifies amount of items received, documents, and gives copy to supervisor/designee.

  • Serve as a lead/Back-up when Supervisor is unavailable.

  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.

  • Receive study samples and complete relevant requisition forms.

  • Prepares specimens for testing and analysis.

  • Prepares shipment of study samples to reference laboratories.

  • Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information.

  • Perform minor instrumentation maintenance and maintain appropriate maintenance logs.

  • Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.

  • Replenish test bench supplies as needed.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Responsible for performing reagent and consumable inventory as directed.

  • Respond to telephone result inquires.

  • Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested by supervisor.

  • Clinical Laboratory Assistant Lead Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the assigned department employee's schedule, department daily operations, resolving assigned department issues and problems.

  • Assists the laboratory supervisor, manager and/or director.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends, as necessary.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
