GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

As part of a clinical team and under the general supervision of the Director of the Path to Lifestyle Change Program, provide organizational, administrative and clinical assistance for recruitment, enrollment, implementation and data collection for the group lifestyle program. Also, responsible for delivery of specialized nutrition and lifestyle intervention through individual and group sessions in association with the Diabetes Center at 50 Staniford St. Supports and participates in the process of program review, implementation, and outcome evaluation. Attends ongoing program required trainings and meetings. Provides quality nutrition care and education based on program curriculum, participant needs and professional/department standards. May assist with the training of program assistants and nutrition students as appropriate. Participates in quality improvement activities. Performs data analysis and prepares reports. The position reports to the Director of the Path to Lifestyle Change Program.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Following established policies and procedures and after successful completion of required training, program coordination responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for developing regulatory documents, operational procedures, and participating in the internal quality improvement process.
  • Continuous internal monitoring of data and data integrity, as well as responding to data queries.
  • Prepares agenda, conducts staff meeting and takes minutes.
  • Develops and maintains databases.
  • Performs data analysis and prepares reports.
  • Continuously assesses staff roles to meet the needs of the program.
  • Drafts and updates a "roles and responsibilities" list in collaboration with program director to summarize staff roles on program.
  • Coordinates and communicates with various departments within the hospital as well as any off-site program entities.
  • Communicates and acts as liaison between program director and clinical team members.
  • Schedules, prepares, and conducts program appointments. This includes coordinating room availability along with the schedules of dietitian-interventionists and program participants within appointment and group timelines.
  • Responsible for monitoring financial budgets, supply ordering and allocation of funds.
  • Performs procedures (such as height, weight, blood pressure, and other measurements and procedures) as needed; administers questionnaires; completes, maintains, and data enters program data and documents, and organizes files and charts.
  • Designs and distributes recruitment and program materials
  • Other responsibilities include some general office support such as answering phone, making photocopies, faxing documents, ordering and stocking supplies
  • Other administrative responsibilities as assigned.
  • Communicate with program director on an on-going basis.

Dietitian-interventionist responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Reviews, implements and revises the nutrition and lifestyle component consistent with the goals of the program, general nutrition principles, needs of the individual participants, and governing policies and procedures. The nutrition component may require literature review, contribution to program design, development of education materials and data collection tools.
  • May conduct screening interviews with potential participants to assess eligibility for the clinical program. Obtain informed consent as needed.
  • Plan, organize and conduct orientation meetings, group lifestyle meetings and individual medical nutrition therapy visits for participants as needed.
  • Completes collection and interpretation of nutrition related data consistent with standards for CDC program recognition and may participate in the publication and presentation of program findings.
  • Documents nutrition data including participant understanding of program requirements and adherence to the lifestyle intervention program.
  • Maintains strong and effective working relationship with co-workers and staff.
  • Participates in orientation/continuing education of the clinical team. Mentors program assistants and students. May participate in the interview process for program assistants, employees and students.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient-centered care of program participants. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the participant's status.
  • Complete other program-related tasks as assigned


Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to prioritize variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Potential to develop competence in leadership and/or management
  • Analytical skills to resolve technical problems are required.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks, people and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, assist and interact, in a professional and compassionate manner with all program participants and staff.
  • Must complete required hospital, departmental specific training.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Ability to start work day as early as 7AM if needed upon occasion.
  • Ability to attend off-site programs or individual visits as needed.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and written communication skills, as an individual and as a member of a team.
  • Effective individual counseling and group facilitation skills; some experience with motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Able to provide compassionate care to diverse participant population.
  • Able to organize work, complete tasks efficiently and independently with attention to detail, meet deadlines for multiple tasks and inquiries.
  • Research knowledge with ability to understand and implement procedures/research protocols.
  • Able to use judgment and solve problems; assess research literature and quality improvement parameters.
  • Computer proficiency including nutrition software, spreadsheets; Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and current knowledge of nutrition assessment instruments and tools.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):

Registration and State licensure must be kept current.

RD status: Registered Dietitian with the commission on Dietetic Registration required.

Licensure Status: Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration for Dietitians and Nutritionists required.

EDUCATION:

Master's Degree from accredited college or university required

Completion of ADA approved Dietetic Internship and ongoing maintenance of necessary Continuing Education Credits required.

EXPERIENCE:

Five or more years of clinical experience preferable. Two or more years of experience in nutrition research preferable

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

May assist with the instruction or orientation of program assistants or dietetic interns as required.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Diabetes Center offices; other hospital space if required for larger space.

May also work off-site or in satellite offices as specifically required by individual programs

Able to work some evenings until approximately 8 PM and occasional Saturdays.
