Job Summary

Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality coatings for the architectural and light duty industrial maintenance markets. Partnering with over 7,500 independent paint retailers, Benjamin Moore provides and supports the best in color matching tools and technology. We are currently looking for a Chemist to join our Color team.

In this role, you will be an integral member of the Color Technology team, working with existing Benjamin Moore color technologies. The Chemist will be required to work both independently and collaboratively with team members to bring important color prescription and equipment testing projects to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on large scale projects
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and use project planning principles
  • Conduct testing on mixing and dispensing equipment, report, and present results
  • Utilize color matching software and a spectrophotometer to generate color matches and computer color corrections
  • Visually analyze and interpret generated color matches by preparing wet trial samples for color accuracy evaluation
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret and report results
  • Identify issues with strong problem-solving skills
  • Responsible for maintaining a detailed laboratory notebook
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory and equipment
  • Investigate color complaints and perform corrective actions if needed; communicate results
  • Work collaboratively on teams and cross functional projects with others in Product Development and Marketing
  • Provide training and direction to lab technicians
  • Participate in learning and capability building initiatives in Product Development


Desired Experience / Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry or related science
  • 3+ years of experience working with color or coatings in a laboratory environment
  • Self-directed and motivated to work independently and collaboratively, driving projects to completion while meeting timelines
  • Team oriented with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An ability for attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills
  • Good color acuity
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, and project planning software
  • Excellent attendance and safety record
