The Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education (CEPSE) seeks a 12-month, tenure-track full-professor to serve as Department Chair. Candidates should be interested in and committed to the leadership of a department that is composed of five separate academic graduate programs including: Educational Psychology and Educational Technology; Measurement and Quantitative Methods; School Psychology; Rehabilitation Counseling; and Special Education (both undergraduate and graduate). The department also houses the Center for the Study of Curriculum Policy and has strong ties with the CREATE for STEM Institute. This results in a total of 35 tenure-stream faculty in the department. The candidate will have a PhD in an academic area centered on at least one of the above five programs and will have a strong record of scholarship in that particular area. Applicants should also have leadership, teaching, and public policy/outreach experience. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and a demonstrated commitment to improving educational outcomes for all students.
The candidate should also have commitment to the development of doctoral, masters, and undergraduate degree programs as all types are included in the aggregate across the five broad program areas. As the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer of the Department, the Chair is responsible for fostering excellence in all Departmental activities consistent with MSU's 2030 Strategic Plan
(https://strategicplan.msu.edu/strategic-plan/executive-summary) and the priorities of the College of Education.
The CEPSE Department houses several nationally acclaimed programs ranked by U.S. News and World Report 2023 including: Rehabilitation Counseling (#1), Educational Psychology (#6) and Special Education (#11). School Psychology and Measurement and Quantitative Methods are also nationally and internationally recognized programs. Situated in an institution committed to access and outreach, CEPSE faculty and students are deeply committed to addressing local, state, national, and international policy and practice issues. Building on our collective strengths, we seek to add a new and unique voice to the department.
