Description - External

McLean Hospital is a comprehensive psychiatric hospital committed to providing easy access to superior quality, cost-effective mental health services in the Boston area, Massachusetts and beyond. Since 1811, McLean Hospital has been a world leader in the treatment of mental illness and chemical dependency, research into the cause of mental illness and the training of generations of mental health care providers. McLean's multidisciplinary programs treat a broad range of psychiatric illnesses across the full continuum of care.

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Case Administrator II is a professional nurse who has acquired specialized knowledge and skills through completion of a graduate program of study. The APRN has the credentials to function in an expanded nursing role and is responsible for the daily management of selected patients. The APRN has the responsibility for assessment and management of patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. The APRN works with her/his collaborating physician in accordance with mutually developed practice guidelines.

On the MSE ART, the APRN is responsible for working alongside an assigned therapist. As a working team, the APRN and Therapist deliver the assessment of the case from both the individual and family and system point of view, and deliver therapy as dictated by the plan of care derived from the assessment. The primary responsibility of the APRN is to assess the need for medication treatment, to initiate it and oversee its effectiveness, and to maintain communication with the medical treaters outside the ART, usually the PCP and outpatient psychiatrist for the patient. The APRN may participate in individual, family and system meetings with the Primary Therapist to assist treatment in going forward.

All McLean team members are expected to consistently demonstrate our values of integrity, compassion, respect, diversity, teamwork, excellence and innovation in their work activities and interactions.
