General Statement of Job:
The Cashier III coordinates duties of the cashiers; ensures that the cashier office fulfills the needs of the students by providing excellent customer service and ensuring that procedures and internal controls of student payments are adhered to. Supervises cashiering staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares accurate and timely cash deposits; reviews and verifies cashiers balancing reports.
  2. Responds to student account inquiries.
  3. Prepares for registration process; assists the Bursar with registration process.
  4. Establishes internal control procedures concerning cash transactions and access.
  5. Arranges for armored car services.
  6. Requests security for registration and off site events.
  7. Reviews credit card report, researches credit card chargeback and electronic funds transfer (EFT) rejects.
  8. Submits weekly refund approvals to accounts payable.
  9. Maintains petty cash fund.
  10. Verifies receipts and daily cashier transactions.
  11. Handles stored value card transactions.
  12. Approves orders of supplies for office and registration.
  13. Recommends and approves hires of temporary part-time staff for registration.
  14. Requests applicable and appropriate reports from Information Technology.
  15. Tests tuition tables and all system upgrades for validity.
  16. Oversees loan management system payment and disbursement feeds to finance.
  17. Responsible and accountable for all tasks and responsibilities assigned.
  18. Supervises cashiering staff.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Associate’s Degree required.
  2. At least three (3) years of teller or cashiering experience.


Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  1. All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
  2. Security Sensitive position: In addition, subject to federal background check.
  3. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
