Description

The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for a Career & Technical Education Data Specialist to manage and monitor Career & Technical Education data and provide technical assistance to Nebraska schools, Educational Service Units (ESUs), teacher preparation institutions, and other educational entities related to utilizing data to assess program effectiveness and compliance.

Nebraska Department of Education employees are working from hybrid work locations. This approach includes both working in the work office and from a home office. The amount of time spent working from home or in the office is subject to supervisory approval and will be discussed at the interview.

Budgeted Salary Range:

$23.680 - $28.407 This range is based upon available budget funds. The selected candidate's skills, abilities, education, and experience will determine the salary offer within this posted range.

Examples of Work

  • Manages data required by federal Perkins legislation and the Office of Civil Rights. Analyzes data to determine Career & Technical Education (CTE) program effectiveness, especially for special population groups and civil rights compliance.
  • Prepares summaries of data for state and federal reports and other communications.
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to secondary and postsecondary education institutions related to accurate data preparation and collection, and the impact of data collection and evaluation.
  • Develops and facilitates professional learning experiences and resources related to CTE and CTE data usage.
  • Conducts desk audits and on-site visits to monitor federal Perkins Grant recipients and provide technical assistance related to the development and implementation of grants.
  • Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships and serves as liaison among state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to achieve goals of Nebraska Career & Technical Education (CTE).
  • Demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license, travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in cross functional projects and initiatives (e.g., planning, budget, priorities, reports, publications) of the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education; assists with integrating information with other Nebraska Department of Education offices and priorities.
  • Serves on committees and work groups.
  • Maintains current knowledge of recent literature and research-based best practices for Career & Technical Education data and research.

Working Conditions and Travel:

This position requires approximately 80% of work time spent in an office environment and the remaining 20% of work time spent traveling and working in sites such as schools, educational service units, and community colleges.

Qualifications / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Education, Measurement and Statistics, or related fields; experience providing technical assistance and presentations related to educational data, data visualization, research, and evaluation, and coordinating initiatives with business and industry groups. Experience managing grant programs and knowledge of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act of 2018 (Perkins).

  • Established policies, procedures, practices of the Nebraska Department of Education.

Abilities:

  • Apply program policies and procedures to review programs for compliance.
  • Gather, analyze, and review data and information to make recommendations.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with agency staff and the public.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of information.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply rules, administrative policies, and program guidelines.
  • Operate office equipment necessary to perform the required duties.
