General Overview

Mass General Brigham Finance manages all finance functions, excluding Treasury, and provides business experience and financial expertise to strategy formulation and decision-making. Today there are over 1,000 Finance employees at 21 locations providing transactional and analytic services to their entities and to the system.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

This position supports the Budget Director of Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH). The Senior Financial Analyst will:

• Provide high level and in-depth budget and special project analysis for assigned operating areas and various strategic hospital initiatives.
• Work closely with various levels of hospital management and local finance staff on issues surrounding budget development, reporting and analytical special projects.
• Assist in the coordination and development of the annual operating budget process.
• Analyze proposed operating budget requests; coordinate questions for discussion and participate in negotiation of budget issues with management; make recommendations to management regarding proposed spending.
• Analyze proposed operating budget requests and ensure compliance with established hospital operating targets.
• Work with product-line analysts, Accounting, other Management and Budget staff, to understand and evaluate financial performance and major financial issues facing the organization.
• Evaluate the relationships between hospital volume activity and the impact on department operations and monthly operating expenses.
• For areas of responsibility, prepare monthly variance analysis, cost per unit analysis, and assist in the review of reports on budget related issues and special projects.
• Work on various monthly and annual budget presentations.
• Design and maintain accurate records and databases.
• Work with operational managers on monthly basis as part of month end closing account analysis and annual budget process.
• Identify opportunities for system development with strategies for new system implementation such as expense reallocations, position control, and ad hoc reporting.
• Assist in other management and budget assignments as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications

• Three to five years experience in healthcare or hospital finance preferred
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Oracle Hyperion and EPIC Revenue System experience a plus

• Must be extremely well organized to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under sometimes tight deadlines.

• Self starter - needs to be able to work independently.
• Strong financial and revenue analysis skills.
• Strong Excel and Access skills.
• Ability to work effectively in teams.
• Ability to work independently with operating managers on issues such as cost per unit analysis, periodic product-line analysis, forecasting and variance analysis.
