The primary responsibility of the Business Development Representative - Professional Liability is to sell, service and retain the Professional Liability book of business. They will be responsible for the placement of admitted and E&S accounts acting in the capacity of Wholesaler. Serves as the primary liaison between agents and underwriters with the ProAssurance companies on facilitating new and renewal business. Responsible for building trusting relationships with underwriters, outside agents, direct customers and the different business development directors for the different regions. The Business Development Representative will coordinate with the Business Development Commercial Lines team to round out the account with business insurance offerings to deliver value-added, single-source solutions for the direct insureds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

70% - Business Development and Retention:

  • Responsible for the growth, sales, service and retention of the ProAssurance Agency Professional Liability book of business as well as Wholesale Accounts.
  • Evaluate and identify the type of risk, exposures and coverages to submit to the appropriate ProAssurance departments or outside markets when applicable.
  • Effectively communicate as wholesaler with sub-agents on the different appetites of ProAssurance companies and programs.
  • Review applications and analyze underwriting information to ensure the risk is eligible for placement with carrier partners based on program appetite guides and other variables.
  • Be knowledgeable with the long list of multiple type of healthcare providers, exposures and specialties.
  • Evaluate professional liability submissions for accuracy and completeness and submit to internal underwriting units and/or external markets when applicable.
  • Inform, educate and assist direct insureds with policy coverage questions and claim reporting procedures by being knowledgeable of the different policy forms and coverages.
  • Prepare and release quote offer letters as directed by underwriting, and calculate surplus lines taxes and fees when applicable.
  • Complete surplus lines affidavits, due diligence requirements, surplus lines stamping policy language and tax information for quotes and policies.
  • Send the appropriate surplus lines affidavits, due diligent forms, invoices and binders to Agency Compliance in a timely manner for filings.
  • Prepare Extended Reporting Period "Tail" offer letters as directed by carriers/markets.
  • Manage and process policy changes and endorsement requests from agents and direct insureds.
  • Correspond and maintain relationships with brokers, sub-agents and/or company underwriters on placement of new and renewal accounts.
  • Provide summary of coverage(s) and certificates of insurance as requested.
  • Accountable for the daily service and maintenance of renewal accounts to meet or exceed retention requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the commercial lines division to deliver additional lines of coverage to promote a value-added, single-source solution within the ProAssurance Agency on direct insureds.


Secondary Responsibilities:

30% - Business Development Administration:
  • Accurately enter customer and submission information into the agency management system.
  • Participate in training and educational seminar for professional development.
  • Responsible for the updating and maintenance of E&S forms, regulations, guidelines and state specific information to ensure compliance at all times.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the current market conditions and changes.
  • Maintain a paperless workflow and follow written procedures at all times.
  • Perform special projects and support agency team members as directed by management.
  • Assist in meeting ProAssurance Agency's initiatives and goals.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance or related field is required. A high school diploma or G.E.D and a minimum of eight years relevant experience is required for candidates without a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of sales and services experience required, with a preference in experience in professional liability.
  • P&C insurance license required.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • High degree of accountability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and reach goals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently.
  • Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload in a fast-paced environment.
