We have 2 positions available. 1 is to be based in Birmingham AL, and the other can be based out of any region.

The primary responsibility of the Business Development Representative - Commercial Lines is to sell, service and retain the Commercial Lines book of business. They will be responsible to drive new business by identifying new business prospects, building trusting relationships, securing buying commitments to achieve growth targets, retain and service their existing book to meet retention metrics, coordinate with carriers underwriters on the underwriting process, collaborate with internal and external teams to round out the account to deliver value-added, single-source solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

70% - Business Development and Retention:

  • Responsible for the growth, sales, service and retention of the Commercial Lines book of business.
  • Review applications and analyze underwriting information to ensure the risk is eligible for placement with carrier partners based on program appetite guides and other variables.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with multiple insurance products, but not limited to, Property, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Cyber Liability & Regulatory Risk coverage.
  • Navigate multiple insurance carrier systems to produce new business indications, issue coverage and endorsements.
  • Present and discuss the risk with carrier underwriters whenever risk falls outside of agent authority levels.
  • Present and discuss new business quotes and renewal quotes with customers, followed by binding process to ensure coverage is bound.
  • Inform, educate and assist direct insureds with policy coverage questions and claim reporting procedures by being knowledgeable of the different policy forms and coverages of the various carrier partners.
  • Discuss, review and process policy change and endorsement requests with insureds and carriers.
  • Accountable for the daily service and maintenance of renewal accounts to meet or exceed retention requirements.
  • Review renewals for accuracy and re-market accounts with other carriers to compete in the competitive market.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with underwriters and their teams.
  • Assist in development and implement sales strategies to achieve profitable growth.
  • Assist with the deployment and execution of marketing campaigns in direct written states for ProAssurance and/or NORCAL.
  • Work collaboratively with the direct sells division to deliver additional lines of coverage to promote a value-added, single-source solution within the ProAssurance Agency.
  • Ongoing prospecting of new business opportunities to maintain sales pipeline.
  • Round out accounts with additional insurance products.
  • Act as Broker when requested on accommodating the placement of commercial insurance coverage for ProAssurance agents.


Secondary Responsibilities:

30% - Business Development Administration:
  • Accurately enter customer and submission information into the agency management system.
  • Travel to industry conferences and meetings.
  • Participate in training and educational seminar for professional development.
  • Prepare and provide summary of coverage(s) and certificates of insurance as requested.
  • Report claims to carriers on behalf of customers, and build relationships with claim adjusters to facilitate and expedite the claim process to deliver a positive claim experience for our customers.
  • Maintain a paperless workflow and follow written procedures at all times.
  • Perform special projects and support agency team members as directed by management.
  • Assist in meeting ProAssurance Agency's initiatives and goals.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance or related field is required. A high school diploma or G.E.D and a minimum of eight years relevant experience is required for candidates without a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of sales and services experience required, with a preference in experience in commercial insurance.
  • P&C insurance license required.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • High degree of accountability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and reach goals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently.
  • Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload in a fast-paced environment.
