Position Summary:

The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic burn surgeon to join our Division of Burn Surgery. The Division of Burn Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes four faculty members who provide a broad array of services in order to provide the highest quality care for patients with severe burn injuries and related conditions. Academic appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's experience.

This is an Open Rank, Fixed Term, 0.5 FTE to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered to commensurate with the candidates experience.

Faculty members within the Division of Burn Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three mission of the department and school of medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, fellows in our Burn fellowship, and in educating members of the broader health care community. Additionally, all burn faculty are expected to participate in outreach to our many rural referring hospitals and to EMS providers across North Carolina. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, basic translational and basic science, ethics, outcomes, health services, education, or global surgery research. Independent of individual research goals, supporting the research mission of the Burn Division is essential. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division. Our faculty interact regularly with multiple consult services, outpatient primary care physicians, and surgeons and physicians from both within UNC Healthcare and non-UNC referring hospitals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

MD

Prospective candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in General Surgery with substantial burn experience with burn fellowship training preferred. In addition, being Board Certified/Board Eligible in Surgical Critical Care is considered a strength. Chosen candidates must either have a current North Carolina Medical License or be eligible for application.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The ideal applicant will have a focused and demonstrated interest in burn surgery and managing critically ill burn patients. Applicants with research experience in any aspect of burn injury, clinical outcomes and quality, health sciences research or basic science/translational research are strongly encouraged to apply.
