We are seeking a Biologist to provide services in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles or monoclonal
  • Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth, optimization of cell
    culture/fermentation conditions, cell culture technology development, improvement of cell culture platforms, modeling of cell culture behavior, troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes, and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility.
  • Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports.
  • Independently set-up and operate bioreactors and other cell culture equipment required for development studies.
  • Perform most cell culture experimental studies.
  • Assist junior associates in bioreactor set-up, cell culture maintenance, and other general lab operations.
  • Participate in project and laboratory meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and be responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and equipment.
  • Contribute results and studies for publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • Evaluate and test new technologies to integrate Lucullus into equipment (EZ-Control, balances, Flex 2, pumps, etc.) to improve workflows and sharing of information across all equipment.
  • Communicate between NIAID IT, Networking, Database, OCBIB, Applikon, and Cytiva on implementing new and maintaining existing platforms for Lucullus integration with other equipment.
  • Serve as POC for troubleshooting efforts and, as needed, as POC for Lucullus NIAID database team, Applikon and Cytiva on-site visits.
  • Assist team members on Lucullus systems, remain up to date on the latest technological features, and communicate new functions to entire department.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Bio Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (3) years' experience in recombinant protein expression using mammalian or microbial cell lines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing cell culture experimental studies related to:
    • cell line growth
    • optimization of cell culture/fermentation conditions
    • cell culture technology development
    • improvement of cell culture platforms
    • modeling of cell culture behavior
    • troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes
    • tech-transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility
  • Must be a team player who can effectively work with members from cross-functional
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with computer software including word processing, data evaluation, and project timeline management
