GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
A research assistant position is available in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The candidate should be self-motivated and is interested in learning and studying cognitive function, Alzheimer's disease, postoperative cognitive dysfunction and anesthesia neurotoxicity using multidisciplinary approaches, which include cellular and molecular biology, immunochemistry, and behavioral analyses.
Our team studies anesthesia/surgery and memory loss among patients post-surgery. While anesthesia does allow patients to undergo surgery, its neurotoxic components may have an impact on more vulnerable populations, particularly children and geriatric patients. We are looking at a few different biomarkers to see whether certain patterns are more present among the sub-population of elderly patients that do develop delirium post-surgery.
Please note this position is temporary in nature and not eligible for benefits.
