The program of work at Stanford focuses on developing new IBD animal and cellular models, and testing novel compounds and cell therapies in preclinical studies. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills, and should have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with cell culture, basic laboratory techniques, and basic animal handling techniques would be beneficial. As we plan to play a very important role in the development of personalized medicine, by moving advances from the laboratories to the clinic for improved patient-centric care, the Basic Life Research Scientist in the Thakor Lab plays a vital role in performing complex functions and activities involved in defined research projects.
The successful applicant must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent with prior relevant training and coursework in biology and chemistry. Experience in grant and paper writing is beneficial. The applicant will need to be able to multi-task and will be expected to contribute to multiple ongoing projects in the lab. Sterile tissue culture techniques, cell-based imaging and assays (immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, ELISA) and mesenchymal stem cell biology experience are also preferred. He/she should be able to work independently in a dynamic, fast paced team environment and is expected to be organized and highly productive. Successful applicants will also have a track record of productive research, presentations and publication.
