Job Summary

The Audio Visual Technician provides technical support to faculty and staff for classroom audio/visual setup and general problem resolution. Work will focus on, but not be limited to, Windows OS, Mac OS, Mobile Devices and classroom support of audio-visual technologies. Support requirements will include both Harper Center (Hyde Park) and may include support for Gleacher Center (Downtown Chicago).

Responsibilities

  • Provides support during the shift hours 1:00pm-9:30pm and Saturday shifts 8:00am-4:30pm as needed.
  • Supports classroom audiovisual systems that employ Crestron control systems and multiple source, multiple projector room configurations.
  • Completes audiovisual presentation set-ups in a variety of settings that include: small conference rooms, classrooms, large assembly spaces.
  • Troubleshoots issues with AV systems and implements temporary fixes as necessary to ensure minimal disruption to faculty, staff and corporate presenters.
  • Escalates problems to AV Team Lead as needed.
  • Provides instruction to faculty, staff and corporate presenters as needed in the daily operation of audiovisual presentation systems.
  • Produces nightly report indicating any issues that occurred during evening classes.
  • Applies moderate/high levels of experience and skills to support the planning, development and execution of audio-visual productions with moderate supervision.
  • Researches, develops, installs, operates and troubleshoots audio-visual systems, such as video conferencing, digital media and desktop and network-based technologies.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related technical area.

Experience:
  • Experience with AV technical support (e.g., LCD Projectors, Document Cameras, Video Conferencing, etc).

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Computer hardware (Windows and Mac).
  • Application software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications.
  • Knowledge and support experience with Zoom.
  • Computer networks (Ethernet, Wireless, Windows 10, Mac OS).
  • Knowledge of mobile devices.

Preferred Competencies
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Professional demeanor, calm, tactful, respects confidentiality, service-oriented.
  • Read and follow signal-flow diagrams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills; proven ability to solve technical problems under pressure.
