About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Athletic Equipment Manager will provide and manage appropriate and safe equipment, uniforms, and laundry service primarily for Football and other designated sports as needed.

Under the direction of the Director of Football Equipment oversee and guide the work of student and temporary employees. Serve as back up for student workers and temporary employees for all equipment operations. Check in with students and temporary employees if they need assistance in completing their daily tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with daily equipment operations including but not limited to issuing necessary items for daily practice, collecting and washing laundry, redistributing the laundered items into locker rooms, and assisting with drills, chains, boards as needed at practice. Assist with keeping equipment room clean and organized.

  • Receive, inventory, track, and properly size and fit student-athletes, staff, and coaches with apparel, footwear, headwear, as well as other equipment and accessories for football. Assist with distribution and return of yearly issued equipment. Receives all ordered items and cross checks packing lists with order form and distributes items as needed.

  • Collaborate with student and temporary employ to disassemble and reassemble football helmets - this includes, maintenance, sanitizing, and refurbishing the helmets to game condition. Review each piece of equipment for safety issues before it is used again by the student-athlete.

  • Prepare game items for all contests for each specific player. Distributes and/or oversees distribution and collection of all apparel/gear prior to and after each contest. In collaboration with student/temporary employees prepare/pack uniforms, equipment, supplies, communication system, coaches' gear for game day and team travel. Assure that all the proper equipment is on the truck.

  • Other duties as assigned by to ensure to meet equipment operation needs for designated team sports.
  • Position works requires working extensive hours on weekends and some weeknights


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's is required.

A minimum of two years of work experience is required, preferably in an athletic equipment room. Experience at the collegiate level or directly related work experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with coaches, athletes, staff and student employees. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must have a high level of initiative on assignments, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and follow through with appropriate actions. The ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities and needs is essential.

Candidate must have a clear understanding of NCAA, Conference, and SMU policies, procedures and rules. Must also have the ability to maintain current knowledge on all protective equipment. Knowledge of athletic fabric, differences, durability, and care preferred

A strong working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel) preferred. A working knowledge of an inventory system desired.
