General Statement of Job:
The Associate Vice-President - Technology and Chief Information Officer is responsible for the strategic leadership and vision to guide the future direction of Information Technology (IT) and Educational Technology (ET) in support of the mission of the College. Collaborates with campus stakeholders to anticipate, create, and maintain a vision for the future technology needs at the College. Supports and promotes the strategic use of technology to advance the overall mission of the College and leads strategic and operational planning to achieve identified business goals. Fosters innovation, prioritizes initiatives, and coordinates the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future information technology across the organization. Collaborates with leadership, faculty, staff, and students to explore, develop, utilize, maintain and evaluate educational technology in the classroom, lab, and other teaching stations as well as the audiovisual technology equipment in other institutional venues.

The AVP will lead and manage the Information Technology Department and Educational Technology Department. Oversees budget allocation, including acquisition, development and implementation of systems infrastructure, hardware, software, third-party technology solutions, audiovisual technology and special events technology.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for developing collaborations among the College’s academic and administrative professionals to advance the student experience with creative technology integrations.
  2. Provides strategic direction for information technology and educational technology services in accordance with the needs of students, faculty, and staff by monitoring industry trends and innovations.
  3. Develops and implements strategic long and short-term technology, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  4. Secures safe and consistent information processing through policies, allocation and use guidelines, procedures, standards, practices, and security measures.
  5. Employs and deploys the most skilled and able IT and ET staff.
  6. Maintains a high level of quality customer service and customer relations.
  7. Provides appropriate reports and summaries to the Vice President.
  8. Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management.
  9. Develops, implements, and evaluates the department’s procedures, programs, functions, and activities.
  10. Provides input on revisions/updates of pertinent existing technology policies and formulation of new policies.
  11. Oversees the divisions Institutional Effectiveness (IE) plan.
  12. Maintains knowledge of the College’s policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  13. Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  14. Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, mentors, assigns schedules, evaluates, and oversees the technical and administrative Information Technology and Educational Technology staff.
  15. Supports the planning and implementation of audiovisual support for meetings, graduations, and other special events.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Master’s Degree Required; Doctorate Preferred.
  2. At least five (5) years of progressive supervisory, administrative, and leadership experience required.
