Part of University Information Technology Services (UITS), the Learning Technologies (LT) division supports excellence in teaching and learning by providing innovative classroom technologies, learning management systems, e-Texts, and collaborative technologies for teaching and learning across distance. The division also conducts research into technology's role in student outcomes and offers expert training, consultation, and support in areas such as active learning spaces, use of technology in the classroom, and assistive technologies for faculty and students with disabilities.

Job Summary

The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Learning Technologies (LT) develops, leads, and supports university-wide initiatives that assist faculty in enriching student learning through effective use of technology. The AVP LT provides vision for the development and adaptation of services to meet the changing needs of faculty, students, and staff. AVP LT forges, maintains, and expands partnerships with academic affairs offices on each IU campus and maintains close working relationships with deans and faculty. Through these partnerships, the AVP LT coordinates, promotes, and identifies technology services in support of teaching and learning that build on the strengths of University organizations and supports the education mission of Indiana University.

The AVP LT reports to the Vice President for Information Technology. As a member of the senior leadership of the Learning Technologies division, the AVP LT works closely with other University Information Technology Services (UITS) Divisions to provide a comprehensive and coordinated response to the technology needs of faculty, students, and staff.

The AVP LT portfolio includes both direct reporting personnel and coordination functions. The AVP LT will have budget management and supervisory responsibilities for operations across the Learning Technologies division and is a member of the Divisional Leadership Committee within UITS. The AVP LT provide leadership through directors/senior managers for the work activities of the Learning Technologies staff, on all campuses. The AVP LT determines needs; requests and allocates resources required for the effective operation of this division.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree and ten years of leadership experience in information technology. Experience in deploying and managing broad scale technical support strategies for a large and diverse customer base is essential. Experience preparing, justifying, and managing a large capital and expense budget.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Proven management ability and outstanding personnel leadership skills demonstrated through a succession of increasingly responsible positions. Demonstrated abilities to develop and adapt services to meet changing needs of faculty, students and staff. A good technical background, including a working understanding of the technologies employed in each of the functional areas of the division and others deployed by a leading institution of higher education. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated success in vendor contract negotiation and service development, vendor and customer relations, and successful problem resolution. Creativity, flexibility and high energy are essential for leading a substantial, diverse, and excellent group of technical staff during a prolonged period of rapid-paced change.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in information technology, business, education, or related fields is desirable. Leadership experience in an R1 University IT environment.
