Job Summary:

The Public Health program in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications to fill a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a talented, committed faculty to make substantial contributions to the continued growth of our academic and research programs in a thriving Public Health program in the Department of Kinesiology. We currently offer a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, a Graduate Certificate in Public Health Studies, a Graduate Certificate in Diversity and Equity in Public Health, and a Master of Public Health with concentrations in epidemiology and urban health. This position will be instrumental in building upon our success and continuing to shape an already dynamic and expanding Public Health education and research program. In addition, as a Carnegie R-1 "Very High Research Activity" institution and as a Texas Tier One institution, the University is poised to experience widespread growth in the near future. This is evidenced by the recent launch of the RISE 100 initiative which is aimed at recruiting 100 tenure-stream faculty to further strengthen the University's position as a leading academic research institution. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The position will involve time devoted to teaching, research and scholarly activities, and service. If hired the candidate will be expected to: 1) support undergraduate and graduate student mentorship; 2) continue to build upon an already established & funded line of scholarly research activity; 3) contribute to the further growth of the Public Health program; 4) be an innovative & effective teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level; and 5) make significant contributions in the area of service to both the University and the professional field.

Required Qualifications:

All candidates must have a Doctoral-level degree in Public Health or a related field and should have academic credentials commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This includes an established track record of scholarly activity including publication history and a record of substantial previous and current funding from various sources. Candidates should have a broad understanding and interest in multidisciplinary studies of how social determinants of health affect population health. Relevant research backgrounds may generally include social or applied epidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, behavioral health, global health, biostatistics, health promotion and disease prevention, health disparities, social determinants of health, health planning and evaluation, environmental health, among others.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be able to significantly contribute to the overarching theme of programming and research in health and disease across the lifespan with a Public Health focus. All areas of Public Health research will be considered. The preferred candidate will be a highly accomplished faculty member who will have active research funding and has the ability to continue to obtain grant funding, with the scale of funding commensurate with the area of scholarship and will advance UT Arlington's research excellence in alignment with the University's strategic plan UTA Strategic Plan.

Department Information:

Public Health is a rapidly growing program with thriving undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The program, housed in Department of Kinesiology, has a broad range of faculty research expertise in several topic areas including social epidemiology, health promotion and disease prevention, maternal and child health, health disparities research, tobacco & substance use research, and health services research. The research success of the program is exemplified by a history of funded projects from various organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, and the American Heart Association. The Department also offers multiple other undergraduate and graduate degrees including a BA in Kinesiology, a BS and MS in Exercise Science, an MS in Athletic Training, as well as a nationally ranked PhD in Kinesiology. The University of Texas at Arlington and the Department of Kinesiology offers all faculty members access to state-of-the-art research facilities. In addition, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is a hot-bed for biomedical and health-related research; the Department of Kinesiology and College of Nursing and Health Innovation have existing collaborations with regional, national and internationally recognized institutions. Our faculty's vast teaching experience, research expertise, and dedication to service provide rich learning experiences across the department's academic programs. Department faculty actively collaborate with our nursing colleagues within the college, in particular in workplace safety, community-dwelling elders, early interventions for children and community-based interventions for obesity in underrepresented/minority populations. Collaboration with colleagues in other departments, such as Disability Studies, Nursing, and the School of Social Work are common. We foster and support multidisciplinary research and education. Being an integral part of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation gives the Department the unique opportunity to have an integral role advancing the University in its mission and the goals laid out in UT Arlington's strategic plan: UTA Strategic Plan.
