Position Summary
Columbia Business School is seeking a leader with deep experience in higher education and industry for its Career Management Center. Reporting to the Senior Vice Dean of Curriculum & Programs, the Associate Dean of the Career Management Center at CBS is responsible for developing (with the School's senior leadership team) the vision for career support across all degree programs (MBA, EMBA, and MS/PhD) as well as for developing and managing the area's functions, including employer/industry relations, student/alumni counseling, systems/analytics, and the strategic management of the team and budget. The Associate Dean engages regularly with external companies and organizations to facilitate recruitment and hiring of Columbia Business School students, and partners with the school's faculty and staff in admissions and student affairs to ensure alignment of our student populations, programming, and academic curriculum with the talent needs of our external recruiting partners. The Associate Dean also represents the School through interactions and meetings with the leaders of other career centers within Columbia University, at peer business schools, and in the industry at large.
Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 10+ years related experience required, including substantial leadership/management experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Must have strong strategic ability and creativity. Must have a collaborative leadership style, including supervisory experience. Must understand the marketplace for business students and graduates of MBA, EMBA, MS and PhD programs, as well as student needs, motivations, and prospects as they approach their near-term job search and consider their longer-term career trajectory. Must possess marketing skills, and a thorough knowledge of private and public sector environments. Should evidence empathy and diplomacy in dealing with diverse constituent groups, with sometimes competing interests given the complexity of stakeholders. Ability to work and manage effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines required. Must be able to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA experience is a plus.
