The Role in Brief:

Associate Art Director

The Associate Art Director helps plan and execute the art, design and other visual elements of effective direct marketing materials for a portfolio of higher education partners, including mail, collateral, direct response websites, online display ads, and various corporate and partner support materials, while ensuring overall production quality. The position teams primarily with the Senior Art Director but also with partner account teams, copywriters and web designers to create quality products that fulfill partner goals and expectations.

This role is based in Richmond, VA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read, analyze and, if necessary, research information for existing and newly assigned partners
  • Understand partner objectives to create and execute art, design and other visual elements for direct marketing materials
  • Collaborate with partners account team members, copywriters, web designers and senior art directors to help create innovative campaigns and ultimately ensure quality and timeliness
  • Maintain current and accurate files of reference materials for assigned partners
  • Work with the production staff to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met
  • Participate in team, creative and staff meetings
  • Keep up to date of emerging technologies and trends
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least 1 year of work experience in marketing or advertising environment
  • Possesses and applies the fundamentals of design and production, including use of Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), the Macintosh operating system and Microsoft Word

Ideal Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage direct marketing principles, think creatively and translate ideas into art, design and other visual elements
  • Knowledge of and experience with web design and usability, print production and postal regulations and guidelines
  • Proven organizational skills and self-starter with ability to handle multiple priorities/deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A passion for design and the willingness to collaborate with and learn from other creative professionals
  • Effective communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
