Description:

The Department of Francophone, Italian and Germanic Studies (FIGS) at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to appoint at the rank of Assistant Professor a scholar of Medieval Italian Studies. In addition to expertise in canonical literary texts of the period (including Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio), applicants will have a strong research profile and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: material texts and paleography, Mediterranean studies, gender and sexuality studies, translation, multilingualism, reception of the Classical tradition.

The position entails teaching two courses per semester; one graduate and three undergraduate courses are taught in a typical year. The successful candidate will supervise doctoral research while collaborating with the interdisciplinary Program in Global Medieval and Renaissance Studies (https://web.sas.upenn.edu/global-medieval-studies/) and the journal Bibliotheca Dantesca (https://repository.upenn.edu/bibdant/). The successful candidate will join the vibrant intellectual community of the Francophone, Italian, and Germanic Studies department (https://www.figs.sas.upenn.edu).

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Italian or related field is required by July 1, 2023.
