Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition

The Department of Agriculture and Nutrition Science at Southern Utah University is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank to start fall semester of 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach and mentor graduate Dietetic students, overseeing their projects. Teach and advise undergraduate students majoring in Human Nutrition. Courses may include: Graduate Capstone, Food Science, Foodservice, Management in Dietetics, and Scientific Foundations of Human Nutrition, along with other possible courses.
2. Primary emphasis is on teaching. However, scholarly activity, professional commitment, and service to the university and profession/community are expected and required for advancement.
3. Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate and accommodate changes and improvements within the department, college, and university.
4. Initiate and carry out appropriate scholarly work in Human Nutrition, including mentoring undergraduate research and graduate students.
5. Participate in department and campus committees.

Education and Experience Requirements:

1. PhD degree in Human Nutrition/Dietetics or closely related field from an accredited university required.
2. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist preferred. The RDN credential needs to be obtained within the U.S.
3. Experience teaching at the university level is preferred.
4. Workload expectation 80% teaching, 20% service and scholarship.
5. Ability to work as a mentor in undergraduate and graduate research.
6. Ability to incorporate technology into teaching.
7. Ability to incorporate experiential education into teaching.
8. Demonstrated communication, interpersonal skills and a team player.
9. Involvement with professional organizations. Desire and ability to maintain currency in the field.
