The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for an anthropologist or scholar in an allied field to be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in autumn 2023. We seek a colleague whose research focuses on environmental injustice and its consequences for health and health disparities. Types of injustices include, but are not limited to, exposures to climate change, resource extraction, hazardous waste, pollution, or food deserts/resource insecurities. We are particularly interested in scholars who employ biocultural or developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD) frameworks and have methodological expertise (data collection/analysis) in one or more of the following areas: epigenetics, human growth/development, chronic or infectious disease, mental health, the microbiome, nutrition, psychoneuroimmunology, reproductive biology. Successful applicants will have a research program that augments the department's strength in the areas of human biology, medical anthropology, and socio-ecological systems. This position is a part of an Ohio State University Race, Inclusion and Social Equality (RAISE) initiative interdisciplinary hiring cluster of three tenured / tenure-track faculty in the areas of Race, Resources and the Environment and Race and Health Equity. The goal of this cluster hire is to catalyze innovative and impactful community-based environmental justice research. Participating academic units include the Department of Anthropology within the College of Arts and Sciences, the Division of Environmental Public Health in the College of Public Health, and the College of Social Work. As part of a cluster hire, the preferred candidate will be expected to contribute to interdisciplinary team science that includes partnering with local communities to address the health impacts of environmental injustice. Faculty in the Department of Anthropology are expected to contribute to research and scholarship through high quality publications and the mentoring of graduate students. In the area of teaching, we seek a colleague who can play an active role in developing our rapidly growing undergraduate programs, including medical anthropology, by expanding course offerings focused on their area of expertise, teaching introductory courses, and mentoring undergraduate research.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty and have opportunities to build connections with colleagues in other departments and affiliated centers and institutes across the university, including the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, the Institute for Population Research, the Infectious Disease Institute, among others.
