Undergraduate Studies at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a dynamic assistant director to oversee day-to-day operations in, and contribute to the overall strategy of, the Science Learning Center (SLC), a highly interactive, student-focused learning center on the Boca Raton campus. As part of the Center for Learning and Student Success, the SLC recruits, trains, and evaluates a large team of undergraduate student workers who provide science-based tutoring services to the University community. This position will report to the director to support the needs of the entire center and its clients. This is a great opportunity for experienced learning center professionals looking to specialize in STEM academic support, current academic advisors, or new higher education professionals with a completed master's and relevant internship/work experience. Summary of Responsibilities Include:
The assistant director will oversee day-to-day operations in, and contribute to the overall strategy of, the Science Learning Center (SLC), a highly interactive, student-focused learning center on the Boca Raton campus. As part of the Center for Learning and Student Success, the SLC recruits, trains, and evaluates a large team of undergraduate student workers who provide science-based tutoring services to the University community. This position will report to the director to support the needs of the entire center and its clients.
Directly supervise all academic support operations in the SLC, including the front desk sign-in experience.
Collaborate with other assistant directors on the selection, evaluation, and on-going training of Science Learning Center tutors. A major component of this position includes working on development of training materials, conducting training sessions with tutors/SI leaders, and conducting evaluation and feedback meetings with the team members.
Develop and foster strong rapport with science faculty to enhance the portfolio of services offered in the center.
Research, design, and implement high-impact academic support services that incorporate educational technology or other learning tools, such as virtual reality learning experiences, mock practical lab exams and microscope workshops.
Contribute to the department's efforts to certify all tutorial staff through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
Additional assistance related to the department's entire portfolio of academic support programs as required (such as scheduling space on campus for exam reviews; basic data entry and analysis; creating flyers or copies; collaborating with various departments to provide support; etc.).
