The University of Iowa Athletics Department seeks applications from self-motivated, results-oriented individuals with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as Assistant Director, Event Management - a full-time position, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, including full University benefits. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Event Management assists with the planning and execution of all home competitions and special events, as well as Big Ten and NCAA championship events hosted by the Iowa Athletics Department. Assist with the day-to-day operations of the event management unit including developing event management manuals and visiting team manuals, and assisting with the establishment of game-day protocols to ensure compliance with department, University, Big Ten and NCAA rules and regulations. For assigned sports contests or events, coordinate the on-site management and supervise event management interns/student employees. Assist with the department's customer service program. This position requires frequent work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • One year experience and working knowledge of intercollegiate sport regular season and championship event management processes, issues, considerations and solutions;
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively in a diverse environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • Working knowledge of and ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and maintain productive, long-term relationships with staff and patrons;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; extensive proficiency in the ability to utilize practices, tools, and techniques for developing manuals and corresponding with customers.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to:
    • Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
    • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program;
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience working in an NCAA Division I event management unit;
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively training and managing temporary, student and volunteer staff to ensure day-to-day operations and day-of-event operations run smoothly;
  • Demonstrated event management experience (both regular and championship seasons) working with the sports of Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Softball, Swimming & Diving, Tennis and/or football is highly desired.
