The function of an athletic trainer is to provide services that address the education, prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The assistant athletic trainer will have duties and responsibilities that support and provide care to all Division-1 varsity student-athletes with an emphasis on rowing. Additional sport / administrative duties may be assigned /determined by the Associate Athletic Director of Student Health and Well-being. The role of the assistant athletic trainer will play a vital role in supporting the mission and values of the Athletic Department University. While working within the scope of state and national regulations and guidelines, the athletic trainer will also provide significant contributions towards safety and risk management.Essential Functions:

    Education, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuriesTraveling with respective teams to provide care and support while on the road for competition.Medical record keeping, documentation, and injury tracking/monitoringVarious administrative duties to support the operations of the sports medicine program.The position requires regular evening and weekend work to provide athletic training services during practices and competitions. The vast majority of the competitions will occur in the evening and on the weekends.The position requires travel to provide support and care for student-athletes and coaches for away competition. Travel will be expected during high level competition that would include conference and national championships.


Qualifications
Education and Experience: Master’s degree is required. Degree in athletic training, sports medicine or a related field is preferred.A minimum of one year of work experience is required. Division I experience is desirable.Previous experience with rowing is preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing, especially through e-mail. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential.

Candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze problems and devise solutions.

Candidate must possess basic skills of Microsoft Office programs i.e. Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize injury documentation and insurance tracking software is essential.NATA certification required. Texas state licensure or eligibility.First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified required.Candidate is expected to work through a variety of weather and environmental conditions, long hours, and hands-on assignments that can provide physical demands.Physical and Environmental Demands:
